Sustilac is a drug that affects metabolic processes in cartilage tissue, stimulates the biosynthesis of proteoglycans and tissue regeneration.
Release form and composition
Sustilac is produced in the form of modified release tablets, film-coated: oval, shell and core - from white to almost white (15 pcs. In blisters, 4 packs in a cardboard box).
1 tablet contains:
- active substance: glucosamine hydrochloride - 1.5 g;
- auxiliary ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose K100M and K200M, calcium hydrogen phosphate, povidone K90, colloidal silicon dioxide, stearic acid;
- shell: macrogol-6000, hypromellose E-5, white opadry (macrogol, titanium dioxide, hypromellose).

Pharmacodynamics
The active ingredient of Sustilak - glucosamine - prevents the destruction of cartilage, stimulates the regeneration of cartilage tissue, has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, and normalizes the production of intra-articular fluid. This effectiveness improves joint mobility and reduces the need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Pharmacokinetics
- absorption and distribution: after oral administration, glucosamine is absorbed quickly and completely in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT); due to the prolonged form, continuous release of the active component of the drug and its uniform absorption are ensured; bioavailability is 25-26%, the highest concentrations are found in the kidneys, liver and cartilage tissue;
- metabolism and excretion: glucosamine is metabolized by first pass elimination (effect of the first passage through the liver) to urea, carbon dioxide and water; excreted mainly by the kidneys.
Indications for use
Sustilac is recommended for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the peripheral joints and spine.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- severe renal failure;
- the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding (lactation);
- children and adolescents under 18 years of age;
- hypersensitivity to glucosamine and other components of the drug.
Relative (the drug is prescribed with caution):
- bronchial asthma;
- diabetes;
- intolerance to seafood (shellfish, shrimp).
Instructions for the use of Sustilak: method and dosage
Sustilac is intended for oral administration. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Recommended dosage regimen: 1 pc. once a day for 6-12 weeks. The course of therapy, if necessary and on the recommendation of a doctor, can be repeated after a two-month break.
A stable clinically significant therapeutic effect is achieved due to the use of the drug for at least six months.
Side effects
Sustilac is well tolerated, in some cases, there may be side effects such as gastrointestinal dysfunction (flatulence, constipation / diarrhea, epigastric pain, nausea) and / or skin hypersensitivity reactions (pruritus, urticaria).
Overdose

Drug interactions
Sustilac potentiates the absorption of tetracyclines, reduces the effectiveness of semi-synthetic penicillins and chloramphenicol.
Allowed the joint intake of glucosamine with glucocorticosteroids, paracetamol, NSAIDs. Combined use with NSAIDs enhances their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
