Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Sulgin Avexima is an antibacterial bacteriostatic drug. The mechanism of its action is explained by the ability to competitively inhibit dihydropteroate synthetase and antagonize para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), as a result of which the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid, which is necessary for the synthesis of pyrimidines and purines, is disrupted. The drug inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli, reduces the synthesis of niacin, riboflavin and thiamine in the intestine.

The bacteriostatic effect of Sulgin Avexim is manifested against such microorganisms as Shigella dysenteriae, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Proteus vulgaris and Escherichia coli.

Pharmacokinetics

After taking the tablet, Sulgin Avexim sulfaguanidine monohydrate is slightly absorbed in the digestive tract, therefore, a high bacteriostatic concentration of the drug is established in the intestine.
