Release form and composition
Dosage forms:
- drops for oral administration and topical application: dark brown liquid with a faint smell of iodine (25 ml in a bottle, 1 bottle in a cardboard box);
- ointment for external use 3%: has a dark brown color and a faint smell of iodine (20 g in a tube, 1 tube in a cardboard box).
Composition of 1 ml drops:
- active substance: diethylbenzimidazolium triiodide - 40 mg;
- auxiliary components: polyvinylpyrrolidone, potassium iodide, ethanol 95%.
Composition of 100 mg ointment:
- active substance: diethylbenzimidazolium triiodide - 3 mg;
- auxiliary components: low molecular weight polyvinylpyrrolidone, dimexide, glycerol, petroleum jelly.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Diethylbenzimidazolium triiodide has a regenerative effect on damaged skin. In addition, the drug produces a bactericidal effect, since the active iodine in its composition inactivates the proteins of the bacterial wall and the enzyme proteins of bacteria. The drug protects the surface of the wound from infections, promotes healing and suppresses infectious processes.
Diethylbenzimidazolium triiodide is active against Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium difficile, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Streptococcus viridans, Streptococcus haemolyticus, Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, Neisseria spp. Fungi.
Pharmacokinetics
According to the instructions, Stellanin is not absorbed when applied topically.
When taking drops inside, the time to reach the maximum concentration of iodine in the blood plasma is 2.05 ± 0.55 hours, the value of C max of iodides is 2.8 ± 0.51 μg / ml. The half-life is 4.42 ± 0.93 hours, the average retention time in the body is 5.07 ± 0.19 hours.
Indications for use

Contraindications

Instructions for the use of Stellanin: method and dosage
Drops
Stellanin drops are taken strictly on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before meals 2-3 times a day. 1 ml of the drug should be dissolved in 50 ml of boiled and chilled water. First, you should rinse your throat with a solution of the drug. The maximum recommended dose is 3 ml / day. The duration of treatment is 5-10 days.
Ointment
Stellanin ointment is applied externally, applied to the damaged area so that it is completely covered with the drug. The frequency of application, as well as the duration of application, is set individually, depending on the severity and localization of the lesion. The maximum dose is 10 g / day. It is allowed to use an ointment under occlusive dressings and a patch.
Recommended dosage:
- superficial skin damage: it is recommended to apply the ointment in a thin layer 2 times a day;
- granulating burns, wounds, trophic ulcers with weak exudation: the drug is applied 1–1.5 mm thick over the entire affected area, a sterile gauze bandage is applied on top. For burns, dressings are changed once every 1-2 days, for trophic ulcers and wounds - 1-2 times a day. In case of treatment of burns without the use of a bandage, the drug is applied 1-2 times a day.
Side effects
Drops

- allergic reactions.
Ointment
When treating with Stellanin ointment, in some cases, allergic reactions may occur, such as itching, flushing of the skin, etc. In this case, the use of the drug should be discontinued.
Overdose
Symptoms of an overdose of the drug when taken orally: staining the mucous membrane of the mouth in brown, bronchitis, rhinitis, edema of the vocal cords, gastroenteritis, anuria, bleeding from the urinary tract, collapse.
Recommended gastric lavage with starch solution until the solution disappears blue and with 1% sodium thiosulfate solution. Also shown is the reception of gruel from flour or oatmeal, corn, potato, rice broths. In the future, symptomatic therapy is carried out.
With topical application of Stellanin, cases of overdose are unknown.

Avoid getting the drug in the eyes and mucous membranes; in case of accidental contact, rinse them with warm water.
Drug interactions
The interval between taking Stellanin inside and taking any other drugs should be at least 30 minutes.
When applied topically, the drug should not be used together with other antiseptic agents that contain mercury, oxidants, alkalis and cationic surfactants. Blood can reduce the bactericidal effect of Stellanin.
