Korneregel is a local remedy used in ophthalmology to stimulate regenerative processes.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of an eye gel 5%: easily flowing, slightly opalescent or transparent, colorless (in tubes of 5 or 10 g, 1 tube in a cardboard box).
The 1000 mg gel contains:
- Active ingredient: dexpanthenol - 50 mg;
- Auxiliary components: edetate disodium - 0.1 mg, cetrimide - 0.1 mg, sodium hydroxide - 1.01 mg, carbomer - 0.1 mg, water for injection - 945.79 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Korneregel is a corneal protector and stimulates the processes of its regeneration.
Dexpanthenol - the active component of Korneregel, is a precursor of pantothenic acid. Thus, the substance has biological properties similar to those of D-pantothenic acid, which, after being converted in the body into coenzyme A, takes part in many metabolic processes.
According to the data obtained as a result of studies on animals, the use of the drug helps to increase the proliferation of fibroblasts and has a regenerating effect. Dexpanthenol, when applied topically, can compensate for the increased need for pantothenic acid in damaged skin or mucous membranes.
The eye gel has a high viscosity, due to which a prolonged contact of the surface of the mucous membrane of the eye with dexpanthenol develops.
Pharmacokinetics
Dexpanthenol is absorbed through the skin.
Carbomer, which is part of Korneregel, has a high molecular weight, as a result of which it is not absorbed into the systemic circulation and does not penetrate into the tissues of the eyeball. The presence of this component in the composition of the drug increases the duration of contact of an aqueous solution of dexpanthenol with the corneal epithelium.
Indications for use
- Non-inflammatory keratopathy, including recurrent erosion, corneal degeneration, corneal lesions associated with wearing contact lenses (treatment);
- Stimulation of the healing process of the conjunctiva and cornea in chemical and thermal burns and injuries (as an adjunct);
- Corneal infections of bacterial, fungal or viral origin (as an adjunct).
Contraindications
A contraindication to the use of Korneregel is hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Due to the lack of clinical data, pregnant and lactating women should use the drug with caution.
Instructions for the use of Korneregel: method and dosage
Eye gel Korneregel is applied topically.
The drug is instilled into the lower conjunctival sac of the affected eye 4 times a day, and also at bedtime. Single dose - 1 drop.
Side effects
During the use of Korneregel, the following side effects may occur:
- Allergic reactions: very rarely - hypersensitivity in the form of itching, skin rashes;
- Local reactions: increased tearing, pain, itching, conjunctival edema, hyperemia, feeling of a foreign body in the eye, short-term "blurred" vision.
Overdose
There is no information.
special instructions
In the treatment of infectious corneal lesions of bacterial, fungal or viral origin, Korneregel should not be used as monotherapy.
The preservative cetrimide, which is part of the gel, with prolonged or too frequent use, can lead to the development of local irritation of the eyes, allergic reactions (in the form of redness, burning, sensation of a foreign body in the eye) and damage to the corneal epithelium.
Wearing contact lenses during the use of the drug is not recommended, which is due to the possible incompatibility of individual components of the drug with the material from which the lenses are made. However, in cases where their wearing is still indicated, the lenses must be removed before using the eye gel Korneregel. You can put them on again no earlier than 15 minutes after the end of the procedure.
The gel tube must be closed after each use. Do not touch the eye with the pipette tip of the tube.
If there is no improvement in the condition or the development of signs of eye irritation, it is necessary to cancel therapy and seek medical advice.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
After instillation of Korneregel on the cornea, a thin film may form, which can lead to a short-term "blurred" vision and, accordingly, a decrease in the reaction rate. Therefore, you can start driving vehicles only after full restoration of vision clarity.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
According to the instructions, Korneregel should be used under medical supervision during pregnancy / lactation.
Drug interactions
The incompatibility of Korneregel with other drugs has not been confirmed.
When carrying out additional local therapy with eye ointments or drops, a break between their use of at least 15 minutes must be observed. In this case, Korneregel is recommended to be used last, which is due to the fact that it can lengthen the residence time of other ophthalmic drugs in the eye and, accordingly, enhance their effect.
Analogs
Korneregel's analogues are: Pantekrem, Hepiderm, Bepanten, Panthenol, Depantol, Panteksol, Sicaprotect, Artelac, Vidisik, Potassium iodide, Lipoflavon, Vet-chest of drawers, Artificial tears, Quinax, Okoferon, Optiv, Ophthalmosol, Oftosik, Solik, Tauricol Fakovit.
Terms and conditions of storage

Reviews about Korneregel
In most reviews of Korneregel, patients note that the drug is highly effective, it restores and moisturizes the mucous membrane of the eye, and promotes rapid healing of corneal injury. The gel is generally well tolerated without causing any discomfort or irritation to the eyes. The main disadvantages of the drug are considered its high cost and short shelf life after opening the tube.
Price for Korneregel in pharmacies
The approximate price for Korneregel for a 5 g tube is 337–421 rubles; for a tube of 10 g - 431-527 rubles.
