Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Tocopherols, which have biological activity, prevent the oxidation of functional groups of molecules of intermediate compounds of cellular respiration. Active tocopherols in the process of oxidation can be converted into free radical anions - semiquinone radicals, which are then reduced again to tocopherols. In the presence of a sufficient amount of these chemical compounds in tissues and organs, they protect unstable metabolites and mediators of cellular respiration from oxidative damage. In the course of redox processes at the level of cellular metabolism under pathological conditions, these substances act as a buffer.
Alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) is one of the most effective tocopherols and is a cellular antioxidant and a substance that binds free oxygen radicals in the body.
Vitamin E takes part in the biosynthesis of proteins and heme (a complex compound that is part of complex proteins - hemoproteins), cell proliferation and other most important processes of tissue metabolism, and also prevents hemolysis of erythrocytes. This vitamin is essential for the normal development and functioning of connective tissue, as well as for strengthening the vascular walls. As a natural antioxidant, it suppresses lipid peroxidation by free radicals.
Lifevit activates phagocytosis, normalizes erythrocyte resistance, and when used in high doses, it counteracts platelet aggregation.
Pharmacokinetics
Alpha-tocopherol is absorbed by 20-40% from the duodenum. For its absorption, the presence of fats, bile salts, as well as the normal functioning of the pancreas is mandatory. With an increase in the dose of the active substance, the degree of absorption decreases. The period required to reach the maximum concentration (T Cmax) is 4 hours. The agent accumulates in all tissues, especially in fatty tissues, and organs.
The drug passes through the placenta in insufficient quantities: 20-30% of the content of alpha-tocopherol in the mother's blood is detected in the fetal blood. Found in breast milk.
Excretion is carried out mainly through the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), more than 90% is excreted in the bile, less than 6% in the urine in the form of glucuronides and other metabolites.
Indications for use
Lifevit is recommended for use only in adults for the prevention and treatment of vitamin E hypovitaminosis, including for the following diseases / conditions:
- changes in the locomotor system as a result of the development of degenerative and proliferative processes (including muscular dystrophy);
- amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (as part of combination therapy);
- the state of convalescence after injuries, operations, serious illnesses;
- chronic hepatitis (as part of complex treatment);
- menstrual irregularities (as part of combined treatment with hormonal therapy of these disorders);
- heavy physical activity.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- childhood;
- acute myocardial infarction;
- hypersensitivity to the components of Lifevit capsules.
Relative (treatment with a vitamin remedy should be carried out with caution):
- transferred myocardial infarction;
- severe cardiosclerosis;
- hypoprothrombinemia due to vitamin K deficiency, since this disease can be aggravated by the use of alpha-tocopherol in a daily dose exceeding 400 International Units (IU) *;
- increased risk of thromboembolism.
* 1 mg = 1.21 IU
Lifevit, instructions for use: method and dosage
Lifefevit capsules are taken orally.
Recommended dosage regimen:
- hypovitaminosis E: 100 mg / day until the symptoms of this condition stop;
- recovery period after severe operations, injuries, diseases: 100 mg / day; course 7-14 days;
- increased physical activity: 100 mg / day during the entire period of exertion;
- chronic hepatitis: 100 mg / day (as part of combination therapy);
- proliferative and degenerative changes in the locomotor system, lateral lateral sclerosis (as part of complex treatment): 100 mg / day for 1-2 months;
- menstrual irregularities (as part of combined treatment with hormone therapy): 300-400 mg every other day, taken from 17 until the last day of the cycle (the day before the next menstruation).
Side effects
Lifevit can contribute to the development of the following side effects from systems and organs:
- digestive system: nausea, gastralgia, diarrhea;
- immune system: allergic reactions;
- vascular system: thrombophlebitis, pulmonary embolism;
- metabolism and nutrition: an increase in serum cholesterol concentration in the blood, an increase in the activity of creatine phosphokinase (CPK), hypercreatinuria.
When treating with Lifevit in recommended doses, as a rule, no adverse effects are observed.
Overdose
In case of taking vitamin E for a long time in daily doses of 400-800 mg, the following symptoms may appear: severe fatigue, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, visual impairment, fainting; against the background of epidermolysis bullosa - the growth of white hair in areas of alopecia. With a long course of treatment in daily doses exceeding 800 mg, bleeding may occur in persons with vitamin K deficiency, as well as disorders of the metabolism of thyroid hormones and an aggravation of the threat of thromboembolism and thrombophlebitis in sensitive patients.
When diagnosing symptoms of vitamin E intoxication, it is necessary to cancel Lifevit, prescribe glucocorticosteroids (GCS) and conduct symptomatic therapy.
special instructions
In the presence of congenital epidermolysis bullosa in areas affected by alopecia, while taking Lifevit, white hair may grow.
Vitamin K deficiency, leading to hypoprothrombinemia, may be exacerbated by high doses of vitamin E (> 400 IU / day).
The use of high doses of vitamin E can cause a patient to be deficient in vitamin A.
To minimize the risk of overdose, it is not recommended to take other vitamin complexes containing alpha-tocopherol simultaneously with the drug.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
Lifevit does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or operate other mechanisms.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation, drug therapy is possible only as directed by a specialist and with strict adherence to his recommendations.
Pediatric use
In pediatric practice, Lifevit is not used.
Drug interactions
- iron preparations (in large doses): the course of oxidative processes in the body increases, and thereby the need for vitamin E increases;
- antiepileptic drugs: the effectiveness of these drugs increases in patients with epilepsy with an increased level of lipid peroxidation products in the blood;
- anticoagulants (derivatives of indandione and coumarin): while taking vitamin E at a dose of more than 400 IU / day, the effect of anticoagulants increases, the risk of bleeding and hypoprothrombinemia is aggravated;
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, GCS, cardiac glycosides: alpha-tocopherol acetate increases the therapeutic effect of these drugs;
- colestipol, cholestyramine, mineral oils: reduce the absorption of vitamin E.
Analogs
The analogues of Lifevit are Vitamin E, Alpha-tocopherol acetate, alpha-Tocopherol-UBF, Vitrum Vitamin E, Doppelgerts Vitamin E forte, Alpha-Tocopherol acetate solution in oil, etc.

Experts consider alpha-tocopherol an effective natural antioxidant that regulates metabolic processes at the cellular level, protects red blood cells, and strengthens the walls of blood vessels. Lifevit normalizes the menstrual cycle and prevents the threat of termination of pregnancy, helps to strengthen immunity and improve the condition of hair and nails.
The disadvantages of the vitamin agent include the relatively high cost, the presence of a dye in the composition and the risk of overdose.
