Gentamicin-AKOS is a bactericidal antibiotic for external use.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - ointment for external use 1%: from white to yellow (15 g in aluminum tubes, each tube is inserted into a cardboard box).

The composition of the ointment per 100 mg:

  • active substance: gentamicin (in the form of sulfate) - 0.1 mg;
  • additional components: solid petroleum paraffin, medical vaseline.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Gentamicin-AKOS is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent from the aminoglycoside group.

The mechanism of action of the drug is due to its ability to bind to the 30S ribosome subunit and disrupt protein synthesis, which prevents the formation of a complex of transport and informational ribonucleic acid. As a result, the genetic code is incorrectly read and non-functional proteins are formed, and polyribosomes are cleaved and lose the ability to synthesize protein.

Unlike other antibiotics, gentamicin has bactericidal properties: in high doses, it reduces the barrier functions of cell membranes and causes the death of bacteria.

It is characterized by high activity against bacterial infectious skin diseases caused by Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Streptococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Pharmacokinetics

After external use, gentamicin is practically not absorbed.

Absorption occurs quickly from large areas, from damaged skin (wound or burn) or from a surface covered with granulation tissue.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Gentamicin-AKOS is intended for the treatment of bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues caused by microflora sensitive to the drug: furunculosis, pyoderma (including gangrenous), paronychia, sycosis, superficial folliculitis.

Also, the ointment is used to treat infected diseases, such as acne vulgaris, burns (including plants), skin abscesses and cysts, wounds (including surgical and sluggish ones), ulcers (including varicose), dermatitis (including seborrheic, eczematous and contact), secondary bacterial infection in viral and fungal skin infections.
