Eye drops Vizomitin

Visomitin is an ophthalmic drug with keratoprotective and antioxidant effects.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - eye drops: slightly opalescent or transparent, slightly colored or colorless liquid (5 ml in polyethylene bottles with dropper stoppers and screw caps, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).

The components of the preparation:

  • active: plastoquinonyldecyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (PDTP), in 1 ml - 0.155 μg;
  • auxiliary: sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium chloride, hypromellose, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, benzalkonium chloride, sodium hydroxide 1 M solution, water for injection.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active substance of Visomitin - PDTP (plastoquinonyldecyltriphenylphosphonium bromide), is a plastoquinone derivative, which is linked to the triphenylphosphine residue through a linker chain (C10). At nanomolar (low) concentrations, PDTP exhibits high antioxidant activity. In addition, it helps to increase the stability of the tear film and affects the processes of epithelialization and tear production.

One of the reasons for the development of age-related cataracts is the damaging effect of ultraviolet radiation, in which photo-oxidation processes are initiated, which leads to denaturation of the main structural component of the lens - crystallins.

The lacrimal fluid is the first protection of the eye tissue from ultraviolet radiation. It absorbs ultraviolet light (range - 240-320 nm) and, due to the components of antioxidant activity, contributes to its neutralization.

The anti-cataract effect, according to preclinical studies, is associated with an increase in the expression level of α-crystallins (the main lens proteins), restoration of the lens epithelium, and activation of energy processes in it. Against the background of age-related cataracts, due to the use of Visomitin, an increase in the antioxidant activity of tears is noted.

Pharmacokinetics

Studies of pharmacokinetic processes in humans have not been conducted.

When conducting preclinical studies on animals, it was found that after intragastric / intravenous administration in organs and tissues, the distribution of PDTP occurs within 48 hours. It was found that within one hour after application in the highest concentrations, PDTP is present in the tissues of the heart, liver and kidneys.

PDTP undergoes enzymatic degradation and covalent binding to proteins at a relatively high rate.

Indications for use

  • dry eye syndrome;
  • the initial stage of age-related cataract.

Contraindications

According to the instructions, Vizomitin should not be used in children and adolescents under the age of 18, as well as in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Adequate controlled studies on the use of PDTP during pregnancy and lactation have not been conducted, therefore, women are not recommended to prescribe the drug during these periods. If it is necessary to carry out therapy during lactation, breastfeeding should be temporarily stopped.

Instructions for use of Vizomitin: method and dosage

Eye drops Visomitin should be dripped into the conjunctival sac.

Adult patients are prescribed 1-2 drops 3 times a day.

The duration of treatment for dry eye syndrome is determined individually, depending on the clinical situation.

Therapy for the initial stage of age-related cataract is 6 months.

Side effects

  • from the senses: a short-term feeling of pain and burning in the eyes after instillation;
  • others: allergic reactions.

Overdose

special instructions

During cataract treatment, the patient should be observed by an ophthalmologist, who will assess the degree of progression of the disease and decide whether to continue or discontinue conservative therapy.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

In cases where side effects occur after the use of Vizomitin in the form of short-term blurred vision, it is not recommended to drive vehicles until it is restored.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Eye drops Visomitin during pregnancy / lactation are not prescribed (adequate controlled studies have not been conducted).
