Black elderberry flowers are a herbal remedy used in the treatment of colds as a diaphoretic.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms for the release of black elderberry flowers:

• whole flowers (whole vegetable raw material): individual flowers and buds with / without short naked pedicels; flowers with a slightly noticeable spine-leaved five-toothed calyx and a corolla consisting of 4–5 petals accreted at the base, up to 5 mm in diameter; smell - fragrant; color - brown, brownish yellow, light yellow, yellowish green, yellow, light brown, grayish green; the taste of the water infusion is spicy (in paper or polypropylene bags of 30, 35, 50, 75 or 100 g, in a cardboard box 1 bag);
• crushed flowers (in paper bags of 35 and 50 g, in a cardboard box 1 bag);
• flowers-powder (raw vegetable-powder): a mixture of particles of buds and flowers of various shapes passing through a sieve with holes of 2 mm; smell - fragrant; color - from grayish or brownish green to yellowish green with dark yellow, yellow, brown and light brown blotches; the taste of the water infusion is spicy (in 1.5 g or 2 g filter bags, 10 or 20 filter bags in a cardboard box).

Active ingredient: black elderberry flowers (containing flavonoids, essential oil, sambunigrin glycoside, tannins and organic acids) - 100%.

Indications for use

Black elderberry flowers are prescribed for the symptomatic treatment of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza.

Contraindications

• age up to 12 years;
• pregnancy and lactation;
• individual intolerance to biologically active substances of the plant.

Method of administration and dosage

Black elderberry flowers are taken orally in the form of an aqueous infusion.

Method of preparation: 1 tablespoon (5 g) of flowers in an enamel bowl is poured with 1 glass (200 ml) of cold boiled water and heated for 15 minutes under a closed lid in a boiling water bath, then for 45 minutes the infusion is cooled at room temperature. After the raw material has been squeezed out, the volume is increased with boiled water to the initial one.

When using crushed raw materials, 2 filter bags are poured into a glass / enamel container 200 ml of boiling water and infused for 30 minutes under a closed lid, pressing from time to time on the bags with a spoon. After the bags are wrung out, the volume is increased with boiled water to the original.

The infusion should be taken warm, after shaking it, 2-3 times a day, 1/3 cup.
