Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Benzydamine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the indazole group. The drug demonstrates anti-inflammatory and local analgesic effects, exhibits antiseptic activity against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms. The mechanism of action of the drug is based on the stabilization of cell membranes and inhibition of prostaglandin production.
The antibacterial and specific antimicrobial action of the drug is carried out through its rapid passage through the membranes of microorganisms and further damage to cellular structures, disruption of metabolic processes in the cell and its lysis.
The active substance demonstrates antimicrobial action against Candida albicans, provides structural modifications to metabolic chains and the walls of fungal cells, thereby preventing the reproduction of the latter. This property of Benzydamine-Akrikhin allows it to be used for the treatment of inflammatory processes in the oral cavity, including lesions of infectious etiology.
Pharmacokinetics
When used topically, benzydamine is actively absorbed through the mucous membranes and quickly penetrates into tissues prone to inflammation. In the blood plasma, the active substance is detected in an amount insufficient for the manifestation of systemic effects.
The agent is excreted in the form of conjugation products or inactive metabolites, mainly through the kidneys.
