Bagothyrox is a hormonal drug used to treat hypothyroidism.
Release form and composition
Bagothyrox is produced in the form of tablets containing levothyroxine sodium in an amount:
- 50 mcg - yellow rectangular tablets;
- 100 mcg - white rectangular tablets;
- 150 mcg are blue rectangular tablets.
The auxiliary substances that make up the drug are: MCC, sodium croscarmellose, powdered cellulose, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, dye.

Indications for use
- Hypothyroidism;
- Thyroid cancer (after surgery);
- Euthyroid goiter;
- Diffuse toxic goiter (after reaching the euthyroid state with thyreostatics).
The drug is used after resection of the thyroid gland as a replacement therapy and for the prevention of goiter recurrence, as well as as a diagnostic agent when conducting a thyroid suppression test.
Contraindications
- Acute myocardial infarction;
- Untreated thyrotoxicosis;
- Acute myocarditis;
- Untreated adrenal insufficiency;
- Hypersensitivity to the components that make up the drug.
Bagotyrox is prescribed with caution:
- Severe long-term hypothyroidism;
- Cardiac ischemia;
- Arrhythmia;
- Arterial hypertension;
- Diabetes;
- Malabsorption syndrome (dose adjustment may be required).
Pregnant and lactating women need to continue therapy with Bagothyrox, prescribed for hypothyroidism. Increased dosage may be required during pregnancy. During the period of breastfeeding, the drug is taken under medical supervision with caution, strictly in the recommended doses.
Method of administration and dosage
The daily dose of Bagotirox is determined by the doctor individually, depending on the indications.
The medicine is taken in the morning on an empty stomach 1 time per day. You can take food 30 minutes after taking the drug.
In case of hypothyroidism replacement therapy for patients under 55 years of age in the absence of cardiovascular diseases, Bagotyrox is prescribed in a daily dose of 1.6-1.8 μg / kg, for older people - 0.9 μg / kg.
In obesity, the dose calculation is adjusted depending on body weight. Patients under 55 years old:
- Women - 75-100 mcg per day;
- Men - 100-150 mcg per day.
The recommended doses for the treatment of congenital hypothyroidism in children are age-dependent.
For other indications, Bagotyrox is taken:
- Complex therapy of thyrotoxicosis - 50-100 mcg per day;
- Treatment of euthyroid goiter and prevention of relapse after surgery - 75-200 mcg per day;
- Suppressive therapy for thyroid cancer - 50-300 mcg per day.
In hypothyroidism, Bagothyrox is usually taken throughout life.
In case of thyrotoxicosis, the drug is taken in complex therapy with thyreostatics after reaching the euthyroid state. The duration of therapy is determined individually.
Side effects
When using Bagotirox in recommended doses, side effects are usually not observed.
With hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, allergic reactions may develop.
In case of an overdose of Bagotyrox, symptoms characteristic of thyrotoxicosis may occur: decreased appetite and body weight, excessive sweating, heart rhythm disturbances, tremors, palpitations, anxiety, heart pain, sleep disturbances, diarrhea. Depending on the severity of the symptoms, a reduction in the applied dosage or a break in therapy for several days may be required. After the disappearance of the disorders, treatment is resumed with lower doses.

In the treatment of hypothyroidism due to damage to the pituitary gland, it should be determined whether the disease accompanies adrenal insufficiency. When confirming the diagnosis, in order to avoid the development of acute adrenal insufficiency, it is necessary to carry out replacement therapy with glucocorticosteroids before using Bagotyrox.
