Aescin is a drug that has an angioprotective, anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effect; improves venous tone.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - coated tablets (30 pcs. In blisters, 1 package in a cardboard box).

Active substance: amorphous alpha escin (triterpene saponin from horse chestnut seeds Aesculus hippocastanum), in 1 tablet - 20 mg.

Auxiliary components: methacrylic acid copolymer (Eudragit L-30 D), magnesium stearate, potato starch, titanium dioxide, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, talc, lactose, polysorbate, polyvinyl pyrrolidone (collidon-25), orange yellow dye (Sicophael).

Indications for use

  • acute radicular radiculopathy;
  • chronic venous insufficiency;
  • traumatic soft tissue injuries: edema, hematomas, inflammation;
  • hemorrhoids in the acute stage;
  • postoperative edema and hematoma (prevention and treatment).

Contraindications

  • renal failure;
  • I trimester of pregnancy;
  • lactation period;
  • hypersensitivity to drug components.

In the II and III trimesters of pregnancy, Aescin can be used if indicated.

Method of administration and dosage

Aescin should be taken orally after a meal, swallowing tablets whole and drinking plenty of water.

At the beginning of treatment, 2 tablets are usually prescribed 3 times a day. As the clinical effect is achieved, the dose is reduced to 2 tablets 2 times a day.

The duration of treatment for chronic venous insufficiency is 2 months or more. In acute conditions, treatment lasts from 5 to 14 days.

For the prevention of postoperative edema and hematomas, Aescin is prescribed no earlier than 16 hours before the operation.

Children are prescribed ½ the dose recommended for adults.

Side effects

Aescin is generally well tolerated. In rare cases, nausea, skin rashes, fever, palpitations occur.

During treatment, you should not simultaneously use drugs that inhibit ovulation.

Aescin does not reduce efficiency and does not cause mental depression.

Drug interactions

Alpha escin potentiates the effect of anticoagulants, enhances the nephrotoxic effect of aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Cephalosporins weaken the binding of the drug to plasma proteins, thereby increasing the risk of developing toxic effects.

Store at a temperature of 15-25 ° C in a dry place out of reach of children.
