special instructions

Ascorbic acid has a stimulating effect on the synthesis of corticosteroid hormones, therefore, during treatment, it is necessary to control blood pressure and adrenal function.

With prolonged use of Asvitol in high doses, it is possible to suppress the function of the insular apparatus of the pancreas, manifested by hyperglycemia and glucosuria. For this reason, patients with a high iron content in the body should be prescribed the drug in a minimum dose.

Ascorbic acid can aggravate the development of proliferating and intensely metastatic tumors.

Vitamin C can distort the results of various laboratory tests, including the level of bilirubin and glucose in the blood, the determination of the activity of transaminases and lactate dehydrogenase.

Pregnant and lactating women should take into account that in the II-III trimesters, the daily daily requirement for ascorbic acid is about 60 mg, during lactation - 80 mg. A woman's diet containing an adequate amount of vitamin C is sufficient to prevent deficiency in an infant (breastfeeding women are not advised to exceed the maximum need for ascorbic acid).

Drug interactions

With the simultaneous use of ascorbic acid:

  • reduces the chronotropic effect of isoprenaline;
  • reduces the therapeutic effect of antipsychotics that are derivatives of phenothiazine;
  • reduces tubular reabsorption of amphetamine, tricyclic antidepressants;
  • increases the total clearance of ethanol, which, in turn, decreases the concentration of ascorbic acid;
  • increases the concentration in the blood of tetracyclines and benzylpenicillin;
  • increases the excretion of iron when used concomitantly with deferoxamine;
  • in a daily dose of 1 g increases the bioavailability of ethinyl estradiol;
  • improves the absorption of iron preparations in the intestine (converts ferric iron to bivalent);
  • with prolonged use or taken in high doses, it can disrupt the interaction of disulfiram with ethanol;
  • in high doses enhances the excretion of mexiletine by the kidneys;
  • slows down the excretion of acids by the kidneys;
  • reduces the concentration of oral contraceptives in the blood;
  • enhances the excretion of drugs with an alkaline reaction (including alkaloids);
  • increases the risk of crystalluria with the use of short-acting salicylates and sulfonamides;
  • reduces the effectiveness of indirect anticoagulants and heparin.

Primidone and barbiturates, in the case of simultaneous use, increase the excretion of ascorbic acid (AA) in the urine.

Alkaline drinks, fresh juices, oral contraceptives, and acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) reduce the absorption and assimilation of AA.

In addition, with the simultaneous use of ASA, its excretion decreases, and also increases the excretion of AA in the urine and decreases its absorption by about 30%.

With prolonged use, glucocorticosteroids, salicylates, quinoline drugs (including fluoroquinolones), calcium chloride deplete the reserves of ascorbic acid.
