Aquadetrim is a drug used to replenish vitamin D3 deficiency and regulate calcium and phosphorus metabolism.

Release form and composition

Aquadetrim is produced in the form of colorless transparent drops for oral administration with an aniseed odor, in 10 ml vials with a dropper stopper.

30 drops (1 ml) contain 15 thousand IU of colecalciferol (vitamin D3) and auxiliary components: sucrose, macrogol glyceryl ricinoleate, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, benzyl alcohol, anise flavor and purified water.

Indications for use

The use of Aquadetrim allows you to enhance the absorption of phosphates and Ca2 in the intestine, helps mineralization of bones, and ensures the work of the parathyroid glands. Also, the drug promotes the formation of teeth and skeleton in children.

According to the instructions, Aquadetrim is prescribed for prevention and treatment:

• Rickets and rickets-like diseases;
• Other forms of vitamin D deficiency;
• Osteomalacia;
• Hypocalcemic tetany;
• Metabolic osteopathies (hypoparathyroidism and pseudohypoparathyroidism).

As part of the complex treatment, Aquadetrim is prescribed against the background of osteoporosis, including postmenopausal.

Contraindications

The use of Akvadetrim is contraindicated against the background:

• Hypervitaminosis D;
• Hypercalcemia;
• Hypercalciuria;
• Urolithiasis (with the formation of calcium oxalate stones in the kidneys);
• Sarcoidosis;
• Kidney disease (acute and chronic);
• Renal / hepatic impairment;
• Active form of pulmonary tuberculosis;
• Hypersensitivity to vitamin D3 and excipients of the drops (in particular to benzyl alcohol).

The medicine is not prescribed for children under one month old.

In accordance with the instructions, Aquadetrim should be taken with caution:

• Patients in a state of immobilization;
• Simultaneously with thiazides, cardiac glycosides;
• Pregnant and lactating women;
• Infants with a predisposition to early overgrowth of fontanelles (with a small size of the anterior crown).

Method of administration and dosage

The drug is taken orally by dissolving in a tablespoon of water. One drop of Aquadetrim contains 500 IU of colecalciferol. The dosage is set individually, taking into account the amount of vitamin D received by the patient in the diet.

For prophylaxis, from 4 weeks of age, full-term newborns are usually prescribed 1000 IU (1-2 drops) of Aquadetrim per day, and in the summer - 500 IU. Reception is indicated for children under 2-3 years old. The dosage is observed in cases where children are sufficiently exposed to the fresh air. With poor care, as well as premature babies, twins and children living in adverse conditions, the daily dose can be increased to 1500 IU.

In the presence of indications and depending on individual factors, in pregnant women, the use of Aquadetrim occurs according to one of two schemes:

• Throughout pregnancy - 500 IU per day;
• Starting from 28 weeks - 1000 IU per day.

For the treatment of rickets, depending on its severity, 2,000-5,000 IU of Aquadetrim are prescribed daily for 1-1.5 months. During drug therapy, it is necessary to monitor the clinical state of the patient and the biochemical parameters of blood and urine. A dosage of 5000 IU / day is usually prescribed only against the background of pronounced bone changes. After obtaining a clear therapeutic effect, the dosage is reduced to prophylactic (1-3 drops per day).

For the treatment of rickets-like diseases, depending on body weight, age and severity of symptoms, 20,000-30,000 IU per day are prescribed under constant monitoring of the biochemical parameters of blood and urine. Duration of treatment is 1-1.5 months.

As part of complex therapy against the background of postmenopausal osteoporosis, 1-2 drops of Aquadetrim are usually prescribed per day.

Side effects

The correct dosage of Aquadetrim is well tolerated. During therapy, attention should be paid to the symptoms of hypervitaminosis D, which manifest themselves as:

• Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting;
• Headache, muscle and joint pain;
• Constipation;
• Dry mouth;
• Polyuria;
• Weakness;
• Mental disorders, including depression;
• Loss of body weight;
• Sleep disorders;
• An increase in temperature and calcium levels in the blood, as well as its excretion in the urine;
• Appearance of protein, leukocytes, hyaline casts in the urine;
• Calcification of blood vessels, kidneys, lungs.

If these symptoms occur, Aquadetrim is canceled, and calcium intake is also limited and vitamins A, B and C are prescribed.

In some cases, hypersensitivity reactions may develop during therapy.

The use of Aquadetrim in children should be carried out under medical supervision. Depending on the analysis data, the dosage regimen may be adjusted (especially in children in the first months of life).

It should be borne in mind that long-term use of the drug in high doses can cause chronic hypervitaminosis D3.

The simultaneous intake of Aquadetrim and calcium in high doses is not recommended.

During therapy, the level of calcium in urine and blood should be monitored.
