If a person's little finger grows numb on his right hand, this may mean the presence of one or another disease, so it is advisable to consult a doctor, undergo an examination and, if necessary, start treatment. In any case, this condition is not recommended to be ignored.
According to statistics, numbness of the fingers of the right hand is noted a little more often than of the left. This is due, among other things, to the fact that most people are right-handed, that is, the right hand has more load. Also, along with the little finger, the ring finger often goes numb.
When the little finger on the hand often grows numb, you should consult a doctor and be examined
Only a medical specialist should prescribe and decipher the results of the examination, diagnose and select treatment for numbness of the upper limb.
The little finger on the right hand grows numb: reasons
Physiological reasons why the little finger often grows numb may be:
- long-term work at the computer (with a keyboard and mouse);
- excessive physical activity involving the upper limbs;
- hypothermia of the body (including refusal to wear gloves and mittens during the cold season).
Numbness can develop the day after the person has slept in an uncomfortable position.
Hands can become numb and swollen in women during pregnancy, as well as against the background of menopausal changes in the body. Numbness can occur with hand injuries.
Contribute to the development of pathology:
- lack of vitamins in the body (especially A, B and E groups);
- improper nutrition;
- overweight;
- wearing tight clothing.
The right ulnar nerve is responsible for the innervation of the little finger, so a sensitivity disorder can be caused by pinching, temperature exposure, and inflammatory processes. Pathology can occur when the ulnar nerve is damaged in any area and impulse transmission is impaired, but most often this condition develops under the following conditions:
- syndrome of the anterior scalene muscle (with muscle spasm, compression of the nerves of the brachial plexus occurs);
- pectoralis minor syndrome (with hypertonicity and shortening of this muscle, the neurovascular bundle is squeezed);
- osteochondrosis of the cervical spine;
- infringement of nerve roots with intervertebral hernia.
Violation of the blood supply to the limb caused by atherosclerosis, blood clots and other factors can also contribute to the development of pathology. Numbness of the upper extremities can be observed in patients prone to arterial hypotension, as well as in endocrine, autoimmune diseases, hormonal disorders, and stroke. Little fingers on both hands often go numb in the presence of neurological disorders, pathology of blood vessels.
Signs and accompanying symptoms
Decreased sensitivity may be accompanied by:
- itching;
- burning sensation;
- creeping sensation;
- feeling of tightness;
- peeling of the skin of the hands;
- a change in tactile sensations.
With the most common pathologies, numbness is accompanied by the following symptoms:
Pathology | Manifestations |
Ulnar nerve damage | The tip of the little finger is most numb. As a rule, the symptom develops in the evening and in a dream, it may be accompanied by headache, pain in the neck, muscle weakness of the upper limb. |
Diseases of the cardiovascular system | In addition to numbness of the limb, patients may experience headache, dizziness, chest pain, impaired speech, consciousness, vision. |
What to do
If the hands become numb in the absence of any pathologies, the exclusion of the causative factor is usually sufficient to normalize the patient's condition. At the same time, treatment is not necessary, you can help with a light massage, warm baths, gymnastics for the fingers.
In case of numbness of the limbs against the background of pathological processes in the body, the choice of a therapy regimen depends on the disease. Apply:
- drug therapy (anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, drugs to improve blood circulation, vitamin complexes);
- hardware physiotherapy, physiotherapy exercises, massage.
In the absence of the effect of conservative therapy, in some cases, surgical treatment may be required.
