Estifan is an immunostimulating herbal preparation.
Release form and composition
Dosage form of Estifan - tablets: biconvex, round, with a dividing line, from dark brown to light brown with darker and lighter inclusions (in a blister contour package 10 pcs., In a cardboard box 1, 2 or 3 packages; in a dark glass jar 30 pcs., in a cardboard box 1 jar).
Composition of one tablet:
- active substance: dry extract of Echinacea purpurea of the Aster family - 200 mg;
- auxiliary components: lactose monohydrate (milk sugar), potato starch, povidone (low molecular weight medical polyvinylpyrrolidone), calcium stearate.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The dry extract of Echinacea purpurea contains such active ingredients as immunostimulating water-soluble polysaccharides, essential oils, flavonoids, polyenes, alcamides.
Polysaccharides increase the phagocytic activity of neutrophils and macrophages, stimulate the formation of the cytokine interleukin-1.
The action of the active substances in the complex is to initiate the differentiation of B-lymphocytes into plasma cells, enhance antibody production and improve the functioning of T-lymphocytes, which play an important role in the adaptive immune response. This determines the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effect of Estifan.
In addition, inulin, levulose, betaine, which are part of the herb echinacea, activate metabolic processes in the body, especially in the kidneys and liver.
Indications for use
- stimulation of immunity and an increase in nonspecific factors of the body's defense in uncomplicated acute infectious diseases or a predisposition to frequent colds - as an auxiliary treatment;
- long-term antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, radiation and immunosuppressive therapy - as an adjunct drug;
- prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections.
Contraindications
- malignant diseases of the hematopoietic system;
- tuberculosis;
- autoimmune diseases (including collagenosis, multiple sclerosis);
- widespread atherosclerosis;
- human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS);
- age up to 18 years;
- increased individual sensitivity to echinacea, other plants of the Aster family or any of the auxiliary components of the drug.
Instructions for the use of Estifan: method and dosage
Estifan tablets are taken orally, after a meal.
Recommended dosage for adult patients: 1-2 tablets 3 times a day.
In the stage of exacerbation of an infectious disease, Estifan is prescribed in combination with antibiotic therapy, 2 tablets 3 times a day for 5 days, then 1 tablet 3 times a day for 10–20 days (depending on the severity and nature of the disease).
During the period of remission, you should take 1-2 tablets 3 times a day for 10-20 days. A second course of treatment is possible in 2-3 weeks.
Side effects
As a rule, Estifan is well tolerated. Rarely are allergic reactions in the form of skin rash, facial flushing, facial edema, as well as sweating, shortness of breath, and a decrease in blood pressure. In cases of prolonged use in high doses, nausea, vomiting, stool disturbances, insomnia, and increased excitability may occur.
With the development of negative phenomena not indicated in the instructions or the aggravation of the listed adverse reactions, it is necessary to inform the doctor about this.
Overdose
At this time, no cases of drug overdose have been reported.

Patients with diabetes should take into account that 1 Estifan tablet contains approximately 0.024 bread units (0.29 g of carbohydrates).
