Ospamox is an antibiotic belonging to the penicillin group.

Ospamoks composition and release form

Ospamox comes in the following form:

  • Film-coated tablets containing 500 or 1000 mg of the active ingredient - amoxicillin trihydrate, as well as auxiliary components: sucrose, sodium saccharin, sodium benzoate. 12 pieces per pack;
  • Granules for the preparation of oral suspension. 5 ml of granules contain active ingredients - amoxicillin trihydrate 125 or 250 mg and sodium benzoate 25 mg, as well as auxiliary components: sucrose, sodium saccharin, sodium benzoate. In vials for 60 ml of suspension.

Ospamox is an antibiotic belonging to the penicillin group with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity.

The use of Ospamox is effective against microorganisms sensitive to penicillin G, including staphylococci that do not produce penicillinase, group A, B, C, G, H, L and M streptococci, Streptobacilli spp., Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria spp., Actinomycetes spp.., Erysipelothrix rhysiopathiae, Pastereulla multocida, Spirochaeta, Listeria spp., Corynebacterium spp., Spirillium minus, Bacillus anthracis.

Ospamox is also used against gram-negative microorganisms: Leptospira, Chlamydia, Bordetella pertussis, Campilobacter spp., Haemophilus influenzae, Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Proteus mirabilis; in relation to anaerobic microorganisms, including Fusobacter spp., Peptococcus spp., Clostridium spp.

Indications for the use of Ospamoks

According to the instructions, Ospamox is prescribed for the treatment of diseases of an infectious and inflammatory nature caused by microorganisms sensitive to amoxicillin, namely:

  • bacterial meningitis;
  • infections of the lower respiratory tract (chronic and acute bronchitis, lung abscesses, whooping cough in the initial stage and during the incubation period, pneumonia);
  • infections of the ENT organs and upper respiratory tract;
  • gynecological infections (endometritis, adnexitis, septic abortion);
  • infections of the gastrointestinal tract (paratyphoid fever, typhoid fever);
  • infections of the genitourinary organs (gonorrhea, urethritis, epididymitis, asymptomatic bacteriuria during pregnancy, cystitis, prostatitis, pyelitis, chronic pyelonephritis);
  • leptospirosis;
  • infective endocarditis, including enterococcal;
  • biliary tract infections (cholecystitis, cholangitis);
  • salmonella carriage;
  • infections of the skin and soft tissues;
  • acute and latent listeriosis;
  • septicemia.

Also, according to the instructions, Ospamox is prescribed for prophylactic purposes to patients in the postoperative period (for example, during operations in the oral cavity).

Method of using Ospamox and dosage regimen

The dosage of Ospamox according to the instructions depends on the location and sensitivity of the infection. The daily dose is divided into several doses.

Duration of treatment: until symptoms disappear, plus 2-5 days.

To prepare a suspension, a bottle with granules is filled with drinking water, shaken, and then topped up with water up to the ring mark. Before use, the bottle with the finished suspension must be shaken well.

Dosages of tablets and suspensions are presented in the instructions for Ospamox:

  • children under one year of age - suspension 125 mg / 5 ml - 5 ml (1 spoon) twice a day;
  • children from one to six years old - suspension 250 mg / 5 ml - 5-7.5 ml (1-1.5 spoons) twice a day;
  • children from six to ten years old - suspension 250 mg / 5 ml - 7.5-10 ml (1.5-2 spoons) twice a day;
  • children from ten to fourteen years old - 1 tablet 500 mg twice a day;
  • adolescents - 1.5 tablets 500 mg twice a day;
  • adults - 1 tablet 1000 mg twice a day.

Contraindications to the use of Ospamox

According to the instructions, Ospamox is contraindicated for:

  • lymphocytic leukemia;
  • severe infections of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea;
  • hay fever;
  • infectious mononucleosis;
  • allergic diathesis;
  • respiratory viral infections;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics.

According to reviews, Ospamox causes the following side effects:

  • Central nervous system: increased fatigue, headache.
  • Digestive system: glossitis, nausea, stomatitis, diarrhea. There have been sporadic reviews of Ospamox, indicating a slight increase in serum aminotransferases.
  • Urinary system: Interstitial nephritis rarely occurs.
  • Hematopoietic system: eosinophilia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia.
  • Leukopenia.
  • Allergic reactions: joint pain, urticaria, angioedema, fever rarely occur. In isolated cases - exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme, anaphylactic shock. With long-term therapy, Ospamox, according to reviews, can cause overgrowth of resistant fungi and microorganisms.

Ospamox is not prescribed according to the instructions or is prescribed with caution to patients with diabetes mellitus, since it contains sugar.

Storage periods
