Pharmacodynamics
Pertussin-Ch is a combined phytopreparation. The herb extract of thyme has an expectorant effect, helps to increase the volume of secretory discharge of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, liquefy sputum and its timely evacuation. Potassium bromide helps to reduce the excitability of the central nervous system (CNS).
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Pertussin-Ch is recommended to be taken as an expectorant in the combination therapy of the following diseases: acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), colds, bronchitis, tracheitis, as well as in the treatment of whooping cough in children.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- brain pathology, traumatic brain injury;
- chronic heart failure (in the stage of decompensation);
- liver disease;
- alcoholism;
- epilepsy;
- glucose-galactose malabsorption, fructose intolerance, sucrase / isomaltase deficiency;
- age up to 3 years;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Relative (use the drug with caution): children over 3 years of age, diabetes mellitus.
Instructions for the use of Pertussin-Ch: method and dosage
Syrup Pertussin-Ch is taken orally, after meals (due to a possible deterioration in appetite), 3 times a day.
Recommended single doses, taking into account the age of the patients:
- children 3–6 years old: ½ – 1 teaspoon;
- children 6–12 years old: 1–2 teaspoons;
- teenagers over 12 years old: 1 dessert spoon;
- adults: 1 tablespoon.
The duration of treatment is 10-14 days. If necessary, after consulting the attending physician, it is possible to increase the duration of the course or conduct repeated treatment.
Side effects
Against the background of drug therapy, the appearance of heartburn and allergic reactions may occur.
Overdose
In case of an overdose of the drug, nausea may occur, the treatment is symptomatic.

The drug contains 8-11% ethanol. The content of absolute alcohol in 5 ml of syrup (1 teaspoon) can reach 0.43 g; in 10 ml (1 dessert spoon) - 0.87 g; in 15 ml (1 tablespoon) - 1.3 g. The maximum daily dose for adults, which is 45 ml (3 tablespoons), may contain up to 3.9 g of absolute alcohol.
Patients with diabetes should take into account that the sucrose content in 5 ml of syrup corresponds to approximately 0.32 bread units (XE), in 10 ml - about 0.64 XE, in 15 ml - about 0.96 XE.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
Since the drug contains ethyl alcohol, patients who drive vehicles or other complex and potentially dangerous equipment should be careful.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and during breastfeeding, the use of a phytopreparation is contraindicated.
Pediatric use
It is contraindicated for children under 3 years old to take syrup, for children over 3 years old, the drug should be prescribed with caution because of the ethanol included in the composition.
For violations of liver function
Reception of Pertussin-CH syrup is contraindicated in the presence of liver disease.
Drug interactions
It is not recommended to use the syrup in combination with other antitussive drugs, as this can lead to difficulty in removing the liquefied sputum.
