Pancef is a third generation parenteral cephalosporin antibiotic drug used to treat various infectious diseases.
Pharmacological action Pantsef
The active ingredient Pancef acts bactericidal and, by disrupting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, affects various types of microorganisms (anaerobic and aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative).
Release form
Pancef is produced in the form:
- Film-coated tablets with an active substance (cefixime) content of 400 mg;
- Light yellow granules for oral suspension in 60 ml and 100 ml vials. The suspension prepared from granules has a white-yellowish color and orange odor.

Indications for Pancef's use

- Bacterial infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, namely: pharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis and exacerbations of chronic bronchitis;
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea of the cervix and urethra;
- Otitis media.
Contraindications
Pancef is not prescribed in the following cases:
- Against the background of hypersensitivity to the active (cefixime) or auxiliary components of the drug, as well as to penicillamine and penicillins;
- During pregnancy;
- During breastfeeding.
Pancef for children is not used until the age of six months.
Pantsef is prescribed with caution according to the instructions to elderly people, against the background of renal failure and with a history of colitis.
Method of using Pancef
Pansef for children from 12 years old (over 50 kg) and adults is prescribed 400 mg once a day. You can also divide the daily dosage of the medication into two doses.
Pancef for children up to 50 kg is prescribed in the form of a suspension based on their body weight - from three to nine mg per 1 kg of body weight (but not more than 12 mg / kg).
The average duration of Pansef therapy is 7-10 days. In diseases caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, therapy is usually longer (at least 10 days); in the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea of the cervix and urethra, 400 mg of the medication is taken once.
In case of impaired renal function, the dose is reduced by 25-50%.
Side effects of Pancef
Pancef, according to reviews, can lead to violations of some body systems. During therapy, development is most likely:
- Vaginitis (genitourinary system);
- Headache, tinnitus, dizziness (nervous system);
- Abdominal pain, nausea, stomatitis, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, dysbiosis, constipation, cholestasis (digestive system);
- Renal dysfunction and interstitial nephritis (urinary system);
- Bleeding, leukopenia, pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, neutropenia, aplastic and hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia (hematopoietic organs).
Allergic reactions, most often accompanying Pansef therapy according to reviews, manifest themselves as:
- Exudative erythema multiforme;
- Eosinophilia;
- Hives;
- Itchy skin;
- Hyperemia of the skin;
- Fever;
- Itching in the genital area;
- Toxic epidermal necrolysis.
Among other disorders that Pancef causes according to reviews, there is hyperbilirubinemia, candidiasis, increased urea nitrogen, the development of hypovitaminosis B, hypercreatininemia, shortness of breath.
In case of drug overdose, the described side effects are usually exacerbated.
Also, before starting treatment with Pancef, it should be borne in mind that against the background of allergic reactions to penicillins in history, hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics may appear.
Drug interactions
According to the instructions, an increase in the toxicity of Pancef leads to the simultaneous use of a medication with blockers of tubular secretion, including allopurinol and diuretics.
Also during therapy, it should be borne in mind that Pancef enhances the effect of indirect anticoagulants, and antacids, which include magnesium or aluminum hydroxide, slow down the absorption of the drug and reduce its therapeutic effect.
Storage conditions
Pancef is a prescription parenteral cephalosporin antibiotic with a shelf life of 3 years under standard storage conditions. A suspension prepared from granules should be stored for no more than two weeks at a temperature of 15-25 degrees Celsius.
