Tussin is an expectorant drug.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - syrup: thick liquid with a cherry smell of dark red color (118 ml in a plastic bottle, in a cardboard box 1 bottle complete with a dosage cup).

5 ml of syrup contains:

• active substance: guaifenesin - 100 mg;
• auxiliary components: sodium saccharin, caramel, corn syrup, glycerol, citric acid, menthol, sodium benzoate, propylene glycol, charming red dye, cherry flavor, purified water.

Indications for use

The use of Tussin is indicated for inflammatory pathologies of the upper respiratory tract, accompanied by a cough with difficult sputum discharge: acute viral infections, influenza, acute pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis.

Contraindications

• a history of gastric bleeding;
• period of exacerbation of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer;
• age up to 2 years;
• individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

The syrup should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in the treatment of children under 12 years of age.

Method of administration and dosage

The syrup is taken orally after meals.

The recommended single dose of Tussin has age restrictions:

• children 2-6 years old: 50-100 mg (1 / 2-1 teaspoon);
• children 6-12 years old: 100-200 mg (1-2 teaspoons);
• patients over 12 years old: 200-400 mg.

Frequency rate of admission 3-4 times a day.

Side effects

special instructions

Guaifenesin metabolites can interfere with the color of the urine, causing it to turn pink. In this regard, the syrup should be discontinued 48 hours before urine collection for analysis to determine 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid in urine, if a nitrosonaphthol reagent is used for this test. Otherwise, the results may be falsely high.

In addition, guaifenesin supplementation may falsely overestimate urinary catecholamines in a vanillyl mandelic acid test.

Drug interactions

The simultaneous use of antimicrobial agents, bronchodilators, cardiac glycosides is allowed.

It should not be taken in combination with codeine and other drugs that act to suppress the cough center and prevent the secretion of liquefied sputum.
