Tonsilotren is a homeopathic medicine used in the treatment of acute and chronic tonsillitis.
Release form and composition
The dosage form of Tonsilotren is tablets: white, two-plane, matte, with a beveled edge, have a slight sulphurous odor or without it (20 pcs. In blisters, in a cardboard box 3 blisters).
Active ingredients in 1 tablet:
- Atropinum sulfuricum D5 - 12.5 mg;
- Kalium bichromicum D4 - 50 mg;
- Hepar sulfuris D3 - 10 mg;
- Mercurius bijodatus D8 - 25 mg;
- Silicea D2 - 5 mg.
Additional components: magnesium stearate, sucrose, lactose monohydrate.
Indications for use
Tonsilotren is prescribed simultaneously with other drugs in the treatment of the following diseases / conditions:
- angina (lacunar, catarrhal, follicular);
- tonsillitis in a chronic course;
- conditions after removal of the tonsils (in order to accelerate the healing of the pharyngeal mucosa).
Contraindications
Absolute:
- age up to 3 years (experience of using Tonsilotren is insufficient);
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Relative (diseases / conditions in which the drug is prescribed with caution):
- hyperthyroidism;
- pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding (the use of Tonsilotren is possible only in cases where the expected benefit is higher than the possible risk).
Method of administration and dosage
Tonsilotren is taken orally, with a 30-minute break with meals. A single dose should be slowly absorbed in the mouth.
For young children (3-5 years old), crushed tablets can be placed under the tongue or dissolved in a small amount of liquid.
Recommended dosage regimen:
- children 3–12 years old: in the acute course of the disease - for 1–2 days, 1 tablet every 2 hours (up to 8 times a day); after improvement of the condition, the frequency of application is reduced to 3 times a day;
- children from 12 years old and adults: in the acute course of the disease - for 1-2 days, 1 tablet every hour (up to 12 times a day); after improvement of the condition, the drug is taken 1-2 tablets 3 times a day.
The therapy is continued until complete recovery.
Single dose in the treatment of chronic tonsillitis (frequency of use - 3 times a day):
- children 3–12 years old: 1 tablet;
- children from 12 years old and adults: 1-2 tablets.
The recommended course duration is 1.5–2 months. The treatment should be repeated several times during the year.
Side effects
When using Tonsilotren, the development of increased salivation is possible (it is recommended to reduce the dose or cancel the drug); in isolated cases - allergic reactions in the form of itching / rash (in cases of these disorders, therapy is canceled).

During the period of therapy with Tonsilotren, there may be a short-term deterioration in the condition, while it is recommended to cancel the therapy and consult a specialist.
Combined use with other drugs is possible.
In the treatment of acute conditions, the therapeutic effect usually develops during the first two days of Tonsilotren use. If no improvement is observed, you need to discontinue the drug and consult a doctor.
