Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Due to the inhibition of the synthesis of cellular proteins, azelaic acid causes a moderate cytostatic effect, which manifests itself as the normalization of keratinization processes in the walls of the follicles of the sebaceous glands.
The drug has the following effect (on the skin surface and in the sebaceous glands):
- anti-inflammatory - reduces the metabolism of neutrophilic granulocytes and their production of free radical oxygen species, which are important factors in maintaining the inflammatory process;
- antimicrobial - mainly against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes.
During a long course, the resistance of microorganisms is not formed.
Inhibition of the growth and viability of abnormal melanocytes is dose-dependent.
In hyperpigmentation, the therapeutic effect is due to suppression of cellular respiration of abnormal melanocytes and / or inhibition of DNA synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics
Azelaic acid, after being applied to the skin, penetrates into the dermis and epidermis. Approximately 4% of the dose is absorbed into the systemic circulation after 1 g of azelaic acid.
Part of the absorbed substance is excreted unchanged by the kidneys, the remaining dose is in the form of dicarboxylic acids (C5, C7), which are formed as a result of beta-oxidation.
Indications for use
- acne vulgaris (acne vulgaris);
- hyperpigmentation such as melasma, such as chloasma.
Contraindications
Absolute:
- age up to 12 years;
- individual intolerance to any component of the drug.
Relative (Skinoclear is prescribed under medical supervision):
- pregnancy;
- feeding period.
Instructions for the use of Skinoklera: method and dosage
Skinoclear cream and gel are applied externally.
The maximum duration of the course is determined by the individual picture of the disease and the severity of symptoms.
The drug should be applied 2 times a day (morning and evening) evenly in a thin layer on previously cleaned (with water and mild cleansers) and dried areas of the skin. A 2.5 cm column of cream / gel is sufficient for the entire face. Also, if necessary, Skinoclear is applied to the neck and upper chest affected by acne.
The drug should be used regularly throughout the course of treatment.
The minimum duration of melasma therapy is 3 months. During this period, in order to prevent exacerbation of the disease and / or re-pigmentation of the skin under the influence of the sun, sunscreens (UV A and B) must be used.
A marked improvement in patients with acne vulgaris is usually observed after 4 weeks. In order to obtain the best results, the use of Skinoclear should be continued for several months.
Side effects
Possible adverse reactions (> 10% - very common;> 1% and 0.1% and 0.01% and <0.1% - rarely; <0.01%, including isolated messages - very rare):
- skin and subcutaneous fat: infrequently - skin depigmentation, acne, seborrhea; rarely - cheilitis;
- immune system: rarely - worsening of the course of bronchial asthma, drug hypersensitivity;
- general disorders (at the site of application): very often - burning, itching, erythema; often - pain, peeling, dryness, discoloration, irritation; infrequently - paresthesia, discomfort, dermatitis, edema; rarely - a feeling of warmth, eczema, vesicular eruptions, rash.
