Sanguirithrin is a herbal medicine with antiprotozoal, antifungal, bacteriostatic, antibacterial action for local, external and oral administration.

Release form and composition

Sanguirithrin dosage forms:

  • enteric-coated tablets: from brownish-orange to dark orange, round with biconvex surfaces (10 pcs. in blister packs, in a cardboard box 3 or 5 contour packs; 30 or 50 pcs. in blisters, in cardboard box 1 contour package);
  • alcohol solution for external and local use: transparent, orange, has the smell of alcohol (10, 25 or 50 ml in dark glass bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box);
  • liniment 0.5%: a homogeneous thick mass from orange to light orange, has a specific odor (10 or 20 g in aluminum tubes or dark glass jars, in a cardboard box 1 tube or jar).

The active ingredient in all dosage forms: sanguirithrin (chelerythrine hydrogen sulfate + sanguinarine hydrogen sulfate, in terms of 100% substance).

Composition of 1 intestinal soluble tablet:

  • active substance: sanguirithrin - 0.005 g;
  • additional components (core): sucrose (sugar) or refined sugar, low molecular weight povidone, magnesium stearate - until a core weighing 0.1 g is obtained;
  • sheath: Opadry II white OY-LS-28911 (hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) - 28-40%, lactose monohydrate or polydextrose - 21-40%, macrogol 4000 (polyethylene glycol 4000) - 8-14%, titanium dioxide (dye) - 20 -thirty%); Opadry II red 85F25163 (hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) - 28-40%, lactose monohydrate or polydextrose - 21-40%, polyethylene glycol 4000 (macrogol 4000) - 8-14%, red iron oxide (E172) dye - 20-30%) - until a tablet with a total weight of 0.11 g is obtained.

Composition of 100 ml alcohol solution:

  • active substance: sanguirithrin - 0.2 g;
  • additional components: 95% ethyl alcohol (ethanol) - 31.5 ml, purified water - up to 100 ml.

Composition of 1 g of liniment:

  • active substance: sanguirithrin - 0.005 g;
  • additional components: emulsifier No. 1 - 0.12 g, polysorbate 80 (tween 80) - 0.01 g, castor oil - 0.1 g, sorbic acid - 0.002 g, 95% ethyl alcohol (ethanol) - 0.015 g, purified water - up to 1 g.

Indications for use

Sanguirithrin is prescribed simultaneously with other drugs in the treatment of acute and chronic diseases of infectious and inflammatory etiology:

  • intestinal infections in acute course (salmonellosis, dysentery, foodborne toxicoinfections);
  • diseases associated with a violation of the normal microflora (dysbacteriosis) and pathogenic fungi (candidiasis, pharyngomycosis, microsporia);
  • wound infections and various infectious complications associated with pathogenic microflora (convalescent bacteria carrier).

Alcohol solution

As a remedy, Sanguirithrin is prescribed in the following cases:

  • infectious and inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes of fungal / bacterial origin, including Candida albicans;
  • periodontitis, aphthous stomatitis, ulcerative necrotizing gingivostomatitis and other lesions of the oral mucosa (dentistry);
  • pyoderma, superficial blastomycosis, dermatomycosis (dermatology);
  • angina, diseases of the external auditory canal and middle ear (otorhinolaryngology);
  • endocervicitis, colpitis, vaginitis, cervical erosion (gynecology);
  • infected burns, long-term non-healing wounds and ulcers (surgery).

For therapeutic and prophylactic purposes, as a drug with antimicrobial action, Sanguirithrin is used in children of all ages and adults (including women during pregnancy, in the prenatal and postpartum periods).

As a prophylactic agent, Sanguirithrin is prescribed to newborns in order to prevent the development of pyoinflammatory skin diseases, as well as to surgical patients (prevention of wound infections).

Liniment

  • pyoderma, superficial blastomycosis, dermatomycosis (dermatology);
  • endocervicitis, colpitis, vaginitis, cervical erosion (gynecology);
  • infected burns, long-term non-healing wounds and ulcers (surgery);

Contraindications

Method of administration and dosage

Pills

Sanguirithrin is taken orally, preferably after meals. Do not chew the tablets.

Recommended dosing regimen (single dose / frequency of administration):

  • adults: 10 mg / 3-4 times a day (if necessary, it is possible to increase the daily dose to 45 mg;
  • children 10-15 years old: 5-10 mg / 3 times a day (maximum - 30 mg a day);
  • children 5-10 years old: 5 mg / 3-4 times a day (maximum - 20 mg a day);
  • children 3-5 years: 5 mg / 2-3 times a day (maximum - 15 mg a day).

The duration of the therapeutic course is determined individually by the nosological form of the disease and its severity.

Average duration of taking Sanguirithrin:

  • bacterial excretion / bacterial carriage: 7-14 days;
  • intestinal infections in acute course (salmonellosis, dysentery, foodborne toxicoinfections): from 5-7 to 10 days;
  • pharyngomycosis, candidiasis: up to 14 days;
  • dysbiosis: 10-14 days;
  • microsporia: 4–5 weeks.

Recommended dosage regimen:

  • treatment of skin folds in newborns: 0.2% aqueous-alcoholic solution is applied using a sterile cotton swab; the first 5-6 days of life - 2 times a day, then - daily 1 time a day;
  • periodontitis (treatment after scraping out pathological gingival pockets and removing dental plaque): introduction into the gingival pockets of thin turundas, abundantly moistened with the drug or its aqueous solution (prepared immediately before use, diluting Sanguirithrin 40 times (1 teaspoon / 200 ml of boiled warm water)), the duration of the procedure is 20 minutes. Frequency rate of application - daily or every other day. The course consists of 4-6 procedures;
  • stomatitis of various origins (treatment): application of a solution of the drug to the lesions, frequency of application - 2-3 times a day, course - 2-5 days. For children, Sanguirithrin is prescribed in the form of a warm aqueous solution: up to 5 years old - lubrication of the oral mucosa, over 5 years old - rinsing;
  • sore throats (treatment): treatment of the tonsils with the drug 1 time per day for a course of 2–5 days. Adults and children from 5 years of age are additionally prescribed daily rinsing with a warm aqueous solution of the drug 3-5 times a day, children under 5 years old - lubrication of the oral mucosa 3-4 times a day. Course - from 3 to 7 days;
  • otitis externa (treatment): introduction of turundas, moistened with solution, 2-3 times a day into the ear canal, for 10-15 minutes. The minimum course duration is 14 days. In chronic purulent otitis media, Sanguirithrin is used with a frequency of 3-4 times a day: children - 1-2 drops, adults - 5-8 drops;
  • purulent-inflammatory complications of wounds (prevention): daily treatment with a sterile gauze swab, abundantly moistened with a solution. At the end of the procedure, the wound should be covered with a sterile napkin soaked in the solution and a fixing bandage should be applied. After 3-4 days, the wound is re-treated, followed by the application of a dry sterile dressing. The duration of the course depends on the period of wound healing, in cases of uncomplicated course, the duration of the treatment is on average 7 to 10 days;
  • infected burns, long-term non-healing wounds and ulcers, open infected fractures (treatment): washing wounds and ulcers with an aqueous solution of Sanguirithrin, as well as applying dressings with a solution to the wound surface. Frequency rate of application: infected burns - every other day, other wounds - 1-2 times a day every day. The duration of use is determined by the nature of the disease and its severity;
  • endocervicitis, colpitis, vaginitis, cervical erosion (treatment): daily douching, lotions and irrigation with a warm aqueous solution of Sanguirithrin 1-2 times a day. 5-10 procedures per course;
  • pyoderma, superficial blastomycosis and dermatomycosis, including those complicated by mixed flora (treatment): daily use in the form of bandages or lubrication of the lesion, the frequency of application is 1-2 times a day. The duration of use is determined by the nature of the disease and its severity.

Liniment

Sanguirithrin is used topically and topically.

Recommended dosage regimen:

  • stomatitis of various etiologies: applications 2-3 times a day on lesions of the oral mucosa, course - 2-5 days;
  • wounds and ulcers that do not heal for a long time: daily or after 1-2 days of dressing, the duration of treatment is determined individually depending on the nature / severity of the disease;
  • erosion of the cervix, endocervicitis, colpitis, vaginitis: daily or every other day applying Sanguirithrin to the walls of the vagina and cervix (on an outpatient basis), course - 3-4 weeks;
  • pyoderma, superficial blastomycosis and dermatomycosis: every day 1-2 times a day in the form of bandages or lubrication of the lesion; course - 8-10 days (possibly a longer course);
  • pustular skin diseases in newborns and young children: application of Sanguirithrin 1–2 times a day for 5–8 days, for abrasions / diaper rash - for 1–3 days.

Side effects

During the period of use of the drug, allergic reactions may develop.

Additionally (depending on the dosage form of Sanguirithrin release):

  • tablets: when chewing a tablet - vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain (disorders are reversible, disappear after the end of the drug);
  • alcohol solution: when smearing or rinsing with an aqueous solution of the preparation of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity - a feeling of bitterness in the mouth; when applied on wound surfaces - a short burning sensation (it is shown to reduce the concentration of the solution);
  • liniment: burning sensation.

special instructions

Patients with diabetes mellitus should take into account that a single dose of the drug contains sucrose (sugar) or refined sugar in an amount of 93.7 mg, which corresponds to 0.008 XE (bread units).

The alcoholic solution of Sanguirithrin contains ethyl alcohol (not less than 27%) as an additional component.

For external / local application of the drug, do not allow Sanguirithrin to get on the mucous membranes of the eyes (if necessary, rinse with sufficient water). In the treatment of wounds and ulcers, long-term non-healing, endocervicitis, colpitis, vaginitis, cervical erosions, pyoderma, superficial blastomycosis and dermatomycosis, alcohol solution at a concentration of 0.005% to 0.2% can be used in combination with liniment.

The combined use of an alcohol solution with local anesthetic drugs (procaine, trimecaine) is possible.
