Kolpotrofin is a drug that restores the vaginal epithelium and promotes its proliferation.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms:

  • Vaginal capsules (10 pcs. In a package);
  • Vaginal cream 1% (15 g in tubes).

The active ingredient of Kolpotrofin is progestriene. Its content in 1 capsule and 1 g of cream is 10 mg.

Auxiliary components of capsules: sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate, dimethicone, sodium propyl parahydroxybenzoate, perhydrogenated polyisobutene, anhydrous colloidal silicon oxide, sorbitan sesquioleate, gelatin, soft white paraffin, purified water.

Auxiliary components of the cream: sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate, glycerin, sodium propyl parahydroxybenzoate, polyglycol ethers of saturated fatty alcohols, decyloleate, a mixture of mono- and diglycerides of saturated fatty acids, medium chain triglycerides, purified water.

Indications for use

For vaginal capsules:

  • Treatment of urogenital disorders resulting from estrogen deficiency, incl. dryness and itching in the vagina, recurrent vaginitis, dyspareunia (pain in the pelvic area or external genitalia), urinary incontinence;
  • Restoration of the vaginal epithelium after inflammatory processes;
  • Postoperative therapy in the period after ovarian removal;
  • Pre- and postoperative therapy for intravaginal surgical intervention;
  • Preparing the cervix for childbirth;
  • Postpartum restoration of the vagina and cervix;
  • Rehabilitation therapy after surgical treatment of cervical epithelial erosion.

For vaginal cream:

  • Synechia treatment;
  • Postoperative therapy in the period after ovarian removal;
  • Treatment of urogenital disorders caused by estrogen deficiency, incl. dryness and itching in the vagina, urinary incontinence, dyspareunia;
  • Postpartum restoration of the vagina, perineum and vulva in case of damage;
  • Pre- and postoperative therapy for intravaginal surgical intervention.

Contraindications

The use of Kolpotrofin is strictly contraindicated in the following cases:

  • Estrogen-dependent tumors (breast cancer, endometrial tumors);
  • Lactation;
  • Hypersensitivity to drug components.

Method of administration and dosage

Capsules are inserted into the vagina, 1 pc. per day:

  • Urogenital Disorders: Within 20 days. If necessary, the doctor can adjust the dose and duration of treatment, prescribe maintenance therapy;
  • Healing of the epithelium of the cervix: within 10 days, if necessary - more;
  • Pre- and postoperative therapy: within 10-20 days before surgery and the same after;
  • Preparation of the cervix for childbirth: 5-6 days before the expected date of delivery;
  • Healing of the cervix and vagina after childbirth: within 10 days.

Application of Kolpotrofin cream:

  • Urogenital disorders: apply a thin layer on the vagina, vulva and urethra and rub in with light massaging movements, the first week - once a day, the next 3 weeks - once every other day. If necessary, the dose and duration of treatment are adjusted by the doctor. Supportive therapy is possible;
  • Pre- and postoperative therapy: once a day for 10-20 days before the operation and the same after it;
  • Healing of the perineum, vagina and vulva after childbirth: once a day for 10 days;
  • Synechiae: 1 time per day until they diverge, the duration of therapy is not limited.

Side effects

Kolpotrophin is generally well tolerated; in rare cases, local (at the site of cream application or capsule administration) allergic reactions in the form of itching and irritation are noted.

The drug is used during pregnancy in preparing the cervix for childbirth, as well as for the healing of tissues in the birth canal in the postpartum period. During the rest of pregnancy, the doctor may prescribe Kolpotrofin, carefully assessing the expected benefits and potential risks. During lactation, the drug is contraindicated.

In the case of development of uterine bleeding, not associated with the menstrual cycle, symptomatic therapy should be carried out.

The cream can be prescribed to girls of puberty for the treatment of synechia. Capsules are contraindicated for use in pediatrics.

Drug interactions

Women undergoing treatment with Kolpotrofin should keep in mind that the drug:

  • Inactivates the action of spermicidal agents;
  • Reduces the strength of the condom, which increases the risk of rupture (due to the contained oily substances and lubricants).

Analogs

Kolpotrofin analogs are: Divigel, Ovestin, Estriol, Estrokad, Angelik, Femoston, Proginova.

Terms and conditions of storage

Store at temperatures: cream - 9-14 ºС, capsules - 14-24 ºС.

The shelf life is 5 years.
