Suspension for oral administration Infacol
Suspension for oral administration Infacol

Infacol is a drug used in pediatric practice for the symptomatic treatment of colic and spasms of intestinal smooth muscles.

Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of a suspension for oral administration (50, 75 or 100 ml in dark glass bottles, in a cardboard box 1 bottle complete with a dosing device and instructions for use of Infacol).

The composition of 1 ml of the suspension includes the active substance: simethicone - 40 mg. Contains excipients, including sodium saccharinate.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient in Infacol is a stable surface-active polymethyloxane - simethicone. It is a mixture of silicone oil with particles of hydrophobic SiO 2.

Due to its ability to reduce surface tension, viscosity and hydrophobicity, the substance is easily distributed over the surface of various substrates. After taking the suspension, the surface tension of the gas bubbles formed in the contents of the stomach and intestinal mucus under the influence of simethicone changes, causing their destruction. The released gases are absorbed by the intestinal wall or excreted during intestinal peristalsis.

Being chemically inert, simethicone removes gas bubbles only physically, the substance does not enter into chemical reactions in the body.

Pharmacokinetics

Showing physiological and chemical inertness, simethicone is not absorbed in the body, does not penetrate into the systemic circulation and, after passing through the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), is excreted unchanged.

The drug is not toxic.

Indications for use

Infacol in newborns and infants is used for the symptomatic treatment of colic (cramping pain in the abdomen) and spasms of intestinal smooth muscles caused by increased gas production and the accumulation of gases in the gastrointestinal tract.

Contraindications

Infacol is contraindicated for use in the presence of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

The drug is not prescribed for adults and elderly patients.

Reviews about Infacol

The opinions of parents who have used the drug to relieve colic in children under the age of 1 year are quite diverse and largely contradictory. Some parents describe the suspension as the very best drug available on the market. They claim that it is effective, practically does not cause side reactions, is convenient to use due to the presence of a pipette, has a pleasant smell, is not absorbed by the body and does not require systematic use. However, according to other reviews, Infacol did not affect the course of the malaise at all, and in some cases intensified colic and thereby worsened the child's condition.

The price of Infacol in pharmacies

The drug is not available in pharmacies, it can be purchased only in specialized online pharmacies, where the price of Infacol varies from 1250 to 1500 rubles. for a bottle of suspension for oral administration with a volume of 50 ml.
