Glenzet - blocker of histamine H 1 receptors; antiallergic agent with antiexudative and antipruritic action.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - film-coated tablets: white, oval, biconvex, smooth on one side, on the other - have a fracture line engraved with "G" on both sides of it (in blisters or strips of 7, 10, 14 pcs., in a cardboard box 1, 2 or 5 strips / blisters).
Active ingredient: levocetirizine dihydrochloride, each tablet contains 5 mg.
Auxiliary components: magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel PH 112), lactose monohydrate (Tablettoza 100), colloidal silicon dioxide (Aerosil 200).
Shell composition: White opadry Y-1-7000, consisting of titanium dioxide, macrogol-400 (polyethylene oxide-400), hypromellose-5cP.
Indications for use
Glenzet is intended for the symptomatic treatment of the following diseases:
- seasonal (intermittent) and year-round (persistent) allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis (lacrimation, rhinorrhea, sneezing, conjunctival hyperemia, itching);
- angioneurotic edema;
- pollinosis (hay fever);
- urticaria, including chronic idiopathic;
- other allergic dermatoses, accompanied by skin rashes and itching.
Contraindications
- galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption;
- severe chronic renal failure (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml / min);
- children under 6 years old;
- period of pregnancy and lactation;
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug or piperazine derivatives.
Due to the risk of complications, Glenzet should be used with caution in the following cases:
- chronic renal failure (creatinine clearance 10-50 ml / min);
- hyperplasia of the prostate or other conditions / diseases in which urinary retention is possible;
- spinal cord injury;
- simultaneous consumption of alcohol;
- elderly age.
Method of administration and dosage
Glenzet is indicated for oral administration. The tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid. No food binding is required.
The recommended dose for patients of all ages is 5 mg (1 tab.) 1 time per day.
Patients with impaired renal function need to increase the intervals between doses. Doses to be prescribed based on creatinine clearance (CC), ml / minute:
- CC ≥ 80 - 5 mg once a day;
- CC 50–79 - 5 mg once a day;
- CC 30–49 - 5 mg once every two days;
- CC <30 - 5 mg 1 time in three days;
- CC <10 - the drug is contraindicated.
For children with renal insufficiency, the dose is adjusted taking into account body weight and QC.
In case of isolated liver dysfunction, there is no need to adjust the dose of levocetirizine.
In hepatic renal failure, Glenzet is prescribed in doses as for patients with impaired renal function.
The duration of treatment for seasonal allergic rhinitis depends on the symptoms. The drug can be stopped after the symptoms disappear and resumed when they appear.
With year-round allergic rhinitis, the drug can be taken during the entire period of exposure to allergens.
The duration of hay fever therapy is established by the doctor. Depending on the clinical picture, it ranges from 1 to 6 weeks.
For chronic diseases (including chronic idiopathic urticaria), the course of treatment may be longer. The duration is agreed with the doctor.
Side effects
Gradation of the incidence of side effects according to the classification of the Medical Dictionary of Regulatory Activities (MedDRA): often -> 1/10, infrequently - from ≥ 1/100 to <1/10, rarely - from ≥ 1/1000 to <1/100, very rarely - <1/10 000.
Possible side effects:
- from the nervous system: often - headache; infrequently - drowsiness; rarely - dizziness; very rarely - agitation, convulsions, hallucinations, aggression, depression; frequency unknown - tremor, insomnia, fainting, dysgeusia, anxiety, paresthesia, sinus thrombosis of the dura mater, suicidal thoughts;
- from the respiratory system: very rarely - shortness of breath; frequency unknown - increased symptoms of rhinitis;
- from the immune system: very rarely - anaphylactic and other hypersensitivity reactions;
- from the gastrointestinal tract: often - dryness of the oral mucosa; infrequently - abdominal pain; very rarely - diarrhea, nausea; frequency unknown - vomiting;
- on the part of the cardiovascular system: very rarely - tachycardia, heart palpitations; frequency unknown - angina pectoris, jugular vein thrombosis;
- from the musculoskeletal and connective tissue: very rarely - myalgia;
- on the part of metabolism and nutrition: frequency is unknown - increased appetite;
- on the part of the skin and subcutaneous tissues: very rarely - rash (including drug), itching, urticaria, angioedema; frequency unknown - photosensitivity, cracks, hypotrichosis;
- from the liver and biliary tract: very rarely - hepatitis;
- from the kidneys and urinary system: the frequency is unknown - urinary retention, dysuria;
- on the part of the organs of vision: the frequency is unknown - inflammatory manifestations, blurred visual perception;
- on the part of the hearing organs: the frequency is unknown - vertigo;
- on the part of laboratory and instrumental data: very rarely - an increase in body weight, impaired liver function indicators;
- others: often - fatigue; infrequently - asthenia; frequency unknown - cross-reactivity, peripheral edema.
Overdose symptoms: in adults - drowsiness, in children - agitation and anxiety, followed by drowsiness. There are no specific antidotes for levocetirizine. The substance is practically not excreted during hemodialysis. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. If a little time has passed after taking the increased dose, it is recommended to perform gastric lavage.

Seasonal allergic rhinitis is defined as a condition in which symptoms occur less than 4 days a week and last for no more than 4 weeks in total.
Year-round allergic rhinitis is considered to be a disease in which symptoms occur more than 4 days a week, and their total duration exceeds 4 weeks.
There is clinical experience of continuous use of levocetirizine for the treatment of adult patients for 6 months. There is no information on the safety of longer therapy.
During treatment, you should refrain from drinking alcohol. It is recommended to avoid potentially dangerous types of work that require the speed of mental and motor reactions, as well as increased concentration (including driving a car).
Drug interactions
Possible interactions of levocetirizine with other drugs have not been studied.
With the simultaneous use of substances that have a suppressive effect on the central nervous system (including ethanol) with Glenset, this effect may be enhanced.
