Gifast is an antiallergic drug, a non-sedative blocker of H 1 - histamine receptors, an active metabolite of terfenadine.

Release form and composition

Dosage form Gifast - film-coated tablets: oblong, biconvex, with rounded ends, with a dividing line on one side, two layers stand out at the break; sheath - pinkish-brown color (10, 15, 20 or 30 pcs. in contoured cell packs, in a cardboard box 1, 2 or 3 packs).

1 tablet contains:

  • active substance: fexofenadine hydrochloride - 120 or 180 mg;
  • auxiliary components: pregelatinized corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, magnesium stearate, crospovidone, colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium;
  • film casing: opadry II (series 85) [partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol, macrogol (polyethylene glycol) 3350, talc, titanium dioxide, sunset yellow aluminum varnish, iron oxide yellow and red].

The average total tablet weight is 420 mg or 630 mg.

Indications for use

Gifast is recommended for the treatment of chronic urticaria and seasonal allergic rhinitis.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • period of pregnancy, breastfeeding (lactation);
  • children under 12 years old;
  • increased individual sensitivity to any of the components.

Gifast is used with caution in chronic renal failure.

Method of administration and dosage

The tablets are taken orally.

Recommended doses (if taken once a day):

  • seasonal allergic rhinitis - 120 mg;
  • chronic urticaria - 180 mg.

The recommended daily dose for patients with impaired renal function is 60 mg of fexofenadine once.

Side effects

Taking Gifast can cause the following side effects on the part of systems and organs:

  • gastrointestinal tract: nausea;
  • skin and subcutaneous tissues: urticaria, allergic reactions; isolated episodes - itching, rash, angioedema;
  • central nervous system: headache, drowsiness, dizziness; rarely - nervousness, fatigue, insomnia, other sleep disorders;
  • respiratory system: isolated episodes - shortness of breath.

The aggravation of the described or observation of other side effects not mentioned above should be reported to the attending physician.

Overdose symptoms include drowsiness, dry mouth, and dizziness. For the treatment of the condition, it is recommended to carry out standard measures to remove the unabsorbed drug from the gastrointestinal tract. After that, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be carried out. Hemodialysis is ineffective.

Drug interactions

  • erythromycin, ketoconazole: increase the plasma concentration of fexofenadine by 2-3 times;
  • aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids: taking 15 minutes before Gifast leads to a decrease in the bioavailability of fexofenadine (it is required to observe the interval between taking them at least 2 hours);
  • omeprazole, other drugs metabolized in the liver: no interaction was found.
