Vokadin is an antiseptic agent with bactericidal, antiviral and fungicidal properties, in accordance with the form of release it is used in dentistry, otolaryngology, gynecology, dermatology.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms:

  • Solution for topical use (100 ml or 500 ml in dark bottles, in a cardboard box 1 bottle);
  • Ointment for topical use (15 g in aluminum tubes, in a cardboard box 1 tube);
  • Vaginal pessaries (14 pieces in aluminum strips, in a cardboard box 1 strip complete with an applicator).

The active substance of Vokadin is povidone-iodine:

  • 1 ml of solution - 10 mg, which is equivalent to 1 mg of iodine;
  • 1 g of ointment - 100 mg, which is equivalent to 10 mg of iodine;
  • 1 vaginal pessary - 200 mg, which is equivalent to 20 mg of iodine.

Indications for use

Topical solution

  • Acute inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, throat, including angina, glossitis, aphthous stomatitis;
  • Infected skin lesions (burns, abrasions, ulcers, wounds);
  • Prevention of infection with various violations of the integrity of the skin;
  • Treatment of mucous membranes before, during and after surgical operations in dentistry and otolaryngology;
  • Antiseptic treatment of the hands of medical personnel, the patient's skin before the diagnostic procedure, before and after surgery.

Topical ointment

  • Infectious diseases of the skin of fungal and bacterial etiology, including trophic ulcers and bedsores;
  • Prevention of skin infection with cuts, minor abrasions, burns, minor operations.

Vaginal pessaries

  • Acute and chronic forms of vaginitis caused by nonspecific or mixed infection;
  • Vaginal candidiasis caused by strains of Trichomonas vaginalis, taking antibiotics, steroid drugs.

Contraindications

  • Severe renal impairment;
  • Hyperthyroidism, thyroid adenoma, other thyroid dysfunction;
  • Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis;
  • Simultaneous therapy with radioactive iodine or diagnostic procedures using it;
  • Pregnancy period;
  • Individual hypersensitivity to iodine and drug components.

In addition, the use of Vokadin is contraindicated:

  • Solution for topical use: children under 6 years old;
  • Topical ointment: severe liver failure, decompensated heart failure, breastfeeding period, age up to 1 year;
  • Vaginal pessaries: the period of breastfeeding.

Caution should be given to:

  • Solution: for severe burns;
  • Ointment: for pediatric patients.

Method of administration and dosage

Topical solution

It is forbidden to swallow the solution!

Application shown in diluted and pure form. For dilution, it is necessary to dissolve 5 ml of the drug in 1/2 glass of water.

The dosage regimen is prescribed by the doctor based on clinical indications.

For rinsing and rinsing the mouth and throat, it is recommended to use 10 ml 2-4 times a day. Gargling lasts no more than 30 seconds. The course of treatment is 2 weeks.

If necessary, a second course of treatment can be started in 3-4 weeks.

Topical ointment

Apply topically, applying a thin layer on the skin of the affected areas of the body, after cleaning and drying them. After applying the ointment, a bandage can be applied to the treated area.

The scheme and duration of use is prescribed by the doctor.

Recommended dosage: in the treatment of infectious skin pathologies - 1-2 times a day; for the prevention of infection - 1-2 times a week during the period of the threat of infection.

With daily use, the duration of treatment should not exceed 2 weeks. A repeated course should be carried out in 2-3 weeks.

Vaginal pessaries

Applied intravaginally, by deep insertion into the vagina using an applicator. For a more convenient introduction, it is recommended to moisten the pessary with water.

The dose and period of use is prescribed by the doctor based on clinical indications.

Dosage regimen: 1 pessary per day before bedtime, for severe forms of infectious diseases - 2 pessaries per day (1 in the morning and 1 in the evening). The course of treatment is 1-2 weeks.

A second course of treatment can be carried out in 3-4 weeks.

During the period of use of pessaries, sanitary napkins should be used.

During menstrual bleeding, therapy is not interrupted.

Side effects

With local application of Vokadin's solution and ointment, the following undesirable reactions may occur:

  • Contact dermatitis, urticaria, toxic epidermal necrolysis, anaphylactic shock, Quincke's edema - in patients with individual hypersensitivity;
  • Local reactions: itching, hyperemia, irritation, burning sensation and pain at the site of application;
  • Metabolic acidosis, hyperthyroidism, symptoms of iodism (metallic taste in the mouth, excessive salivation, headache, parotitis, swelling of the eyes, larynx and / or lungs, conjunctivitis, rhinitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, functional disorders of the digestive system) - with prolonged use of high doses.

Against the background of the use of vaginal pessaries, side effects may develop:

  • Digestive system: dyspeptic symptoms, heartburn;
  • Nervous system: short-term pain syndrome of various localization;
  • Allergic reactions: urticaria, hyperemia of the mucous membrane and skin, dermatitis, Quincke's edema, toxic epidermal necrolysis, anaphylactic shock;
  • Others: feeling of warmth and soreness in the groin area.

special instructions

Compliance with therapeutic doses when applied topically contributes to a slight systemic absorption of iodine.

The solution contains ethyl alcohol.

The therapeutic effect of povidone iodine decreases in an alkaline environment, as well as in the presence of blood, pus, and fat.

When using the drug, you should strictly adhere to the recommendations of the attending physician.

Drug interactions

The simultaneous use of Vokadin with other antiseptic and disinfectants, medicines containing mercury, silver, enzymes, taurolidine, hydrogen peroxide, as well as with benzoin tincture is prohibited.

It is not recommended to prescribe ointment and solution to patients receiving lithium preparations.

Povidone iodine is incompatible with oxidants, alkali metal salts, alkaloids, acidic substances, and acting as reducing agents.
