Vertran is a histamine drug that improves the microcirculation of the labyrinth.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - tablets: round flat form, with beveled edges, almost white or white, at a dosage of 8 mg and 16 mg - dividing risk on one side (8 mg: 15 pcs. 1 tablet contains:
- active substance: betahistine dihydrochloride - 8 mg, 16 mg or 24 mg;
- auxiliary components: colloidal silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, citric acid monohydrate, talc, mannitol.
Indications for use
- Meniere's syndrome, accompanied by tinnitus, hearing loss, dizziness with nausea and / or vomiting;
- prevention and symptomatic therapy of vertigo (vestibular dizziness) of various etiologies.
Contraindications
- the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- age up to 18 years;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
With caution, Vertran should be prescribed for pheochromocytoma, bronchial asthma, patients with a history of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
Method of administration and dosage
The tablets are intended to be taken orally with meals.
The dose and period of treatment are prescribed by the selection method, taking into account the individual tolerance of betahistine.
The recommended dosage regimen: 8-16 mg 3 times a day or 24 mg 2 times a day. Although improvement in the condition usually occurs already at the beginning of taking the tablets, in some cases the therapeutic effect appears gradually and reaches stable stability after several months of therapy.
The maximum daily dose of Vertran is 48 mg.
With hepatic and / or renal insufficiency, dose adjustment is not required in elderly patients.
Side effects
Side effects recorded during clinical trials:
- from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT): often - dyspepsia, nausea;
- from the nervous system: often - headache.
Adverse events found in the post-marketing period of use:
- from the gastrointestinal tract: bloating, vomiting, pain in the stomach and intestines;
- dermatological reactions: pruritus, urticaria, rash, angioedema;
- from the immune system: hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylactic reaction).
special instructions
Disorders from the gastrointestinal tract in the form of pain, bloating or vomiting are usually mild in nature and disappear when the dose is reduced. For their prevention, it is recommended to take tablets simultaneously with food or immediately after a meal.
Drug interactions
The simultaneous use of the drug with H 1 -histamine receptor blockers can reduce the therapeutic effect of betahistine.
