Vagisept is a combined antimicrobial agent active against diseases caused by Trichomonas spp. and / or mushrooms.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - vaginal suppositories: torpedo-shaped, white or white with a creamy or yellowish shade of color (5 pcs. In a blister strip, 1 or 2 packs in a cardboard box).
Active ingredients in 1 suppository:
- metronidazole - 250 mg;
- fluconazole - 150 mg.
Auxiliary components: disodium edetate, boric acid, macrogol 400 and macrogol 1500.
Indications for use
- bacterial vaginosis;
- vaginitis of various etiologies (candidiasis, Trichomonas, gardnerella, mixed);
- nonspecific vaginitis.
Contraindications
- diseases of the peripheral and central nervous system;
- severe liver dysfunction (including porphyria);
- violation of hematopoiesis;
- age up to 18 years;
- pregnancy;
- lactation (or feeding for the period of treatment should be discontinued);
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Method of administration and dosage
Vagisept is used intravaginally.
The standard course of treatment involves the introduction of 1 suppository 1 time per day (before bedtime) for 10 days.
Side effects
In some cases, allergic and local reactions occur.
Theoretically, there are possible side effects associated with systemic absorption of metronidazole, such as:
- dizziness, headache, increased fatigue, mental changes (mood lability, anxiety), ataxia, convulsions;
- metallic or unpleasant taste, dry mouth, change in taste, abdominal pain or cramps, loss of appetite, diarrhea / constipation, nausea, vomiting;
- leukopenia;
- allergic reactions.
special instructions
During the period of therapy, one should refrain from sexual intercourse.
It is recommended to carry out simultaneous treatment of the sexual partner.
Drug interactions
With simultaneous use with metronidazole:
- ethanol: disulfiram-like reactions develop, disturbances from the central nervous system are possible;
- indirect anticoagulants: their effect is enhanced;
- lithium preparations: their toxicity increases;
- phenobarbital, phenytoin: the metabolism of metronidazole is accelerated, its concentration in the blood decreases;
- cimetidine: the metabolism of metronidazole decreases, as a result of which its concentration in the blood serum increases.
The interaction of fluconazole, the second active ingredient of Vagisept, with other drugs for intravaginal use has not been studied.

Shelf life is 2 years.
