Betaderm is a combined external antibacterial drug with a strong anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, vasoconstrictor and anti-allergic effect.
Release form and composition
Dosage forms of Betaderma release:
- cream for external use: white, homogeneous (15 g in aluminum tubes, 1 tube in a cardboard box);
- ointment for external use: translucent, almost white or white (15 g each in aluminum tubes, 1 tube each in a cardboard box).
Active ingredients in 1000 mg cream:
- gentamicin (in the form of gentamicin sulfate) - 1 mg;
- betamethasone (in the form of betamethasone dipropionate) - 0.5 mg.
Auxiliary components: flavoring chemoderm 841 - 0.2 mg, chlorocresol - 1 mg, petroleum jelly - 150 mg, cetostearyl alcohol (60% cetyl alcohol, 40% stearyl alcohol) - 72 mg, propylene glycol - 50 mg, sodium hydrogen phosphate - 0.81 mg, liquid paraffin - 60 mg, macrogol cetostearate - 22.5 mg, potassium dihydrogen phosphate - 5.86 mg, disodium edetate - 0.2 mg, water - up to 1000 mg.
Active ingredients in 1000 mg ointment:
- gentamicin (in the form of gentamicin sulfate) - 1 mg;

Auxiliary components: liquid paraffin - 250 mg, butylhydroxytoluene - 0.05 mg, lanolin alcohol - 30 mg, butylhydroxyanisole - 0.05 mg, cetostearyl alcohol (60% cetyl alcohol, 40% stearyl alcohol) - 20 mg, petroleum jelly - up to 1000 mg.
Indications for use
Betaderm is prescribed for the treatment of the following weeping, inflammatory skin conditions (dermatoses), complicated by a secondary bacterial infection and proceeding with itching and hyperkeratosis:
- lupus erythematosus (skin manifestations);
- psoriasis;
- atopic dermatitis;
- simple chronic lichen;
- seborrheic dermatitis;
- eczema;
- polymorphic erythema;
- allergic contact dermatitis.
Contraindications
- vaccination period and post-vaccination skin reactions;
- lupus;
- fungal and viral skin infections;
- cutaneous manifestations of syphilis;
- youthful and rosacea;
- trophic ulcers and phlebitis;
- age up to 2 years;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
In elderly people with atrophy of the subcutaneous tissue, Betaderm should be used with caution.
Method of administration and dosage
Betaderm is used externally, applying it to the affected areas of the skin in a small amount.
Frequency rate of application - 1-2 times a day.
A weekly dose with continuous use - up to 45 g.
The duration of the course is determined by the effectiveness and tolerability of the treatment. On average, it is no more than 2-4 weeks.
Side effects
In very rare cases, during therapy, the development of the following disorders is observed: itching, burning sensation, exudation, erythema, pigmentation disorders.
Possible side reactions: inhibition of epidermal growth, acne, dry skin, steroid purpura, atrophy of subcutaneous tissue, atrophy of the skin and striae, hyper- or depigmentation of the skin, folliculitis, telangiectasia, maculopapular rash or urticaria.
During a long course or in cases of applying Betaderm to large areas of the skin, the development of disorders that are characteristic of glucocorticosteroids may occur, including ulceration of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, osteoporosis, hyperkalemia, suppression of the adrenal cortex function, increased body weight, edema, increased blood pressure, menstrual irregularities, exacerbation of hidden foci of infection, insomnia, agitation.
After applying Betaderm to the skin of the face, the development of perioral dermatitis is possible, on the skin of the eyelids - the acceleration of the development of cataracts or the intensification of the manifestations of glaucoma.
Since the preparation contains gentamicin, when Betaderm is applied to mucous membranes or large areas of the skin, especially those damaged by the pathological process, the likelihood of symptoms of ototoxicity should be taken into account.
In children, in addition to adverse reactions characteristic of adults, the following disorders may develop: growth retardation, inhibition of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, Itsenko-Cushing's syndrome, lag in weight gain, increased intracranial pressure.

Long-term use of Betaderm should be avoided, since in this case the frequency of development of adverse reactions increases, and bacterial resistance to gentamicin may also occur.
Do not allow the drug to get into the periorbital area and eyes. Certain areas of the body (perianal region, armpits, groin folds) are more at risk of developing stretch marks. In this regard, the duration of therapy in these areas should be limited.
Do not apply, even for a short time, Betaderm on the skin of the face, as this can lead to the appearance of telangiectasia.
The drug should not be used under an occlusive dressing. In cases where there is an urgent need, it is necessary to use air-permeable dressings (do not use sealing, oilcloth dressings).
With prolonged use on large areas of skin with compromised integrity, there is a potential for gentamicin absorption and, accordingly, the onset of symptoms of ototoxicity.
In cases of fungal superinfection, additional therapy with drugs with antifungal action is required.
For children, the drug can be used from 2 years old only under strict indications and under medical supervision. This is due to the fact that when Betaderm is applied externally, it is possible to absorb proportionally more active substances and, therefore, there is a high probability of systemic side effects. Therefore, the drug is prescribed to children in the shortest possible course, observing all precautions.
Drug interactions
When conducting a combination treatment, Betaderm can weaken the effect of immunostimulating drugs and enhance the effect of immunosuppressive drugs.
