Besalol is a combined preparation with antispasmodic and antiseptic effects, used in the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of tablets (6 pcs. In contoured non-cell packs, in a cardboard box of 2, 3 or 5 packs and instructions for the use of Besalol).
Active ingredients in 1 tablet: belladonna extract - 10 mg, salol (phenyl salicylate) - 300 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The combined composition of Besalol provides its anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antiseptic and hyposecretory efficacy. Thanks to the latter, the drug inhibits the secretion of the glands: pancreas, stomach, salivary, bronchial and sweat, and also reduces the secretion of bile.
Properties of the active components of the drug:
- Belladonna (belladonna) leaf extract: a herbal ingredient that has m-anticholinergic and antispasmodic effects, inhibits the stimulating effect of acetylcholine, inhibits the secretory activity of the body. Belladonna alkaloids reduce the muscle tone of the gastrointestinal tract (gastrointestinal tract), gallbladder and ducts, but stimulate the tone of the sphincters. They cause tachycardia, increase atrioventricular (AV) conductivity, dilate the pupils, hindering the outflow of intraocular fluid, increase intraocular pressure and can cause accommodation paralysis;
- Phenyl salicylate: antiseptic, releases salicylic acid and phenol through hydrolysis in the alkaline contents of the intestine. Phenol is active against pathogenic intestinal microflora, salicylic acid has anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
When taken orally, Besalol phenyl salicylate is not affected by the acidic environment of gastric juice, it is hydrolyzed to phenol and salicylic acid in the alkaline environment of the intestine.
Phenol is excreted in the urine, creating high concentrations in the urinary tract. Salicylic acid is biotransformed mainly in the liver, forms 4 metabolites found in many tissues of the body and urine. It is excreted mainly by active secretion in the renal tubules, up to 60% as unchanged salicylic acid, the rest in the form of its metabolites. The excretion of unchanged salicylate is in direct proportion to the acidity (pH) of urine, when alkalizing increases the ionization of salicylates, decreases their reabsorption and significantly increases excretion. The rate of excretion also depends on the dose taken: for low doses, the half-life is 2-3 hours, and with their increase it can increase to 15-30 hours.
The pharmacokinetic properties of belladonna leaf extract have not been studied.
