Berotek is a drug for the relief and prevention of bronchospasm.
Release form and composition
The drug is available in the form of a solution for inhalation: colorless or almost colorless, transparent (20, 40, 100 ml in dark glass dropper bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).
Active ingredient: fenoterol hydrobromide, 1 ml - 1 mg.
Indications for use
Thanks to the action of the active substance, fenoterol, the drug prevents and relieves bronchospasm of various origins, effectively protects against the effects of methacholine, histamine, allergens, cold air and other bronchoconstrictors.
Berotek is prescribed in the following cases:
- Bronchial asthma attacks;
- Conditions characterized by reversible respiratory obstruction;
- Prevention of exercise asthma.
In addition, the drug is prescribed before inhalation of mucolytic agents, antibiotics, glucocorticosteroids (as a bronchodilator) and in the study of respiratory function (for bronchodilator tests).
Contraindications
The drug is not prescribed for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, tachyarrhythmias and hypersensitivity to fenoterol.
Caution when prescribing Berotek is necessary when prescribing the drug to children under 6 years of age and patients with the following diseases:
- Diabetes;
- Severe diseases of the cardiovascular system;
- Recently suffered myocardial infarction;
- Arterial hypotension or hypertension;
- Hyperthyroidism;
- Intestinal atony;
- Hypokalemia;
- Pheochromocytoma.

Method of administration and dosage
Before use, the drug should be diluted with saline to a volume of 3-4 ml. The duration of inhalation is controlled by the consumption of the solution. The drug should be diluted immediately before the procedure. The interval between inhalations should not be less than 4 hours.
To relieve an attack of bronchial asthma, children over 12 years old and adults are recommended to use 10 drops of the solution, in severe cases this dose can be increased to 20-25, and in extremely severe cases - up to 40 drops. Children 6-12 years old for the same purposes are prescribed to use inhalation 10 drops of Beroteka, in severe cases - 20, in extremely severe - 30 drops. If it is necessary to re-use the drug, it is prescribed up to 4 times a day at a dosage of 10 drops.
For children under 6 years of age, in order to relieve an attack of bronchial asthma and in other conditions with reversible airway obstruction, the initial dose is 5 drops, the maximum single dose is 10 drops. Inhalation is carried out up to 3 times a day.
In order to prevent physical exertion asthma, adults, children from 6 years of age and elderly patients are prescribed 10 drops of Berotek before intense exercise.
Side effects
The use of Berotek can cause the following side effects:
- Headache, nervousness, dizziness, minor tremor;
- Increased heart rate, tachycardia, angina pectoris, arrhythmia;
- Hypokalemia (a decrease in potassium ions in the blood), hyperglycemia (an increase in blood glucose);
