Release form and composition
Bepanten is available in the following dosage forms:
- Cream for external use 5%: soft, homogeneous, has a weak specific odor, white or white with a yellowish tinge (in aluminum tubes of 3.5 g, 30 g, 100 g);
- Ointment for external use 5%: opaque, elastic, pale yellow, with a faint lanolin odor (in aluminum tubes of 3.5 g, 30 g, 100 g).
Active ingredient: dexpanthenol, in 1 g of cream and 1 g of ointment - 50 mg.
Excipients:
- Cream: DL-pantolactone, potassium cetyl phosphate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, lanolin, isopropyl myristate, propylene glycol, purified water;
- Ointment: Protegin X, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, lanolin, white beeswax, soft white paraffin, almond oil, liquid paraffin, purified water.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The active ingredient in Bepanten is dexpanthenol, a substance that quickly converts in skin cells into pantothenic acid, which is the main part of coenzyme A and plays an important role in the formation and healing of damaged skin.
Thus, Bepanten normalizes cellular metabolism and stimulates skin regeneration.
Pharmacokinetics
After being applied to the skin, dexpanthenol is quickly absorbed, transforming into pantothenic acid during absorption. Binds to plasma proteins, mainly albumin and beta-globulin.
Pantothenic acid is not metabolized, it is excreted unchanged.
Indications for use
The use of Bepanten ointment and cream is recommended in the following cases:
- prevention and therapy of skin dryness in violation of their integrity;
- caring for the mammary gland of a nursing mother during lactation, treatment of redness, dryness and cracked nipples;
- care for the skin of children from birth, treatment of diaper rash and diaper dermatitis;
- activation of the regeneration of the skin with minor injuries, abrasions, minor burns, skin irritations; ointment for this purpose is used for bedsores, chronic ulcers, cracks, as well as for faster healing of transplanted skin.
Bepanten cream is additionally used to heal sunburns, prevent and treat dry skin due to various genesis of dermatitis, manifested by irritation, peeling, redness, a feeling of tightness of the skin, as well as for daily care of the skin of the face and hands, which are most susceptible to external factors.
Contraindications
According to the instructions, Bepanten is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components included in the product.
The tool can be used by lactating and pregnant women.
Instructions for the use of Bepanten: method and dosage
When caring for newborns, Bepanten cream or ointment is regularly applied to clean, dry skin after changing diapers or diapers.
For prophylactic treatment and treatment of nipples, the drug is applied after feeding.
To treat damage to the cervix, anal passage, wounds and other damage to the skin, the agent is applied 1-2 times a day directly to the site of injury. The duration of Bepanten's use is determined by the doctor individually, based on the indications.
Side effects
Side effects after using the drug are rare; in some cases, itching and urticaria were noted.
Overdose
Overdose cases have not been reported to date. Cases of hypervitaminosis are unknown. Even in very high doses, dexpanthenol is well tolerated and does not cause the development of any undesirable reactions.
