Marigolds erect, or African (Tagetes erecta), genus Marigolds, family Astrovye - an annual herb with a fibrous root system, an erect spreading stem 20-80 cm high, alternate, pinnately dissected or pinnately-divided toothed leaves from light to dark green color. Inflorescences are simple or double, yellow or orange, single baskets on long peduncles (from 3 to 10 cm).
In the wild, Marigolds erect are common in Central and South America. For the design of parks, squares, gardens, and other territories, the plant is widely used in all climatic zones.
Chemical composition
Medicinal raw materials of marigolds - flowers and leaves, rich in essential oils containing pinene, ocymene, sabinene, citral, cymene, linalool, terpinene; flowers also contain lutein.
Inflorescences are harvested from the second half of July to mid-September. Dry raw materials in a well-ventilated place without exposure to sunlight.
The essential oil is produced by distilling yellow, orange and bronze-brown flowers with steam, and has a warm, bitter-floral aroma.
Beneficial features
In folk medicine, Erect marigolds are used as an antibacterial, antifungal, diaphoretic, diuretic, antihelminthic agent.
Indications for use
- upper respiratory tract infections and influenza: antimicrobial inhalation;
- calluses and warts: to soften rough skin;
- hematomas: for the fastest resorption;
- urolithiasis, cystitis, urethritis, urinary retention: as a diuretic;
- twilight vision disorder (nyctalopia or night blindness): to improve vision;
- stressful situations: the aroma of marigolds relieves anxiety, has a calming and relaxing effect;
- female infertility: apply an infusion of red-brown flowers, the richest in provitamin A (carotene) and pigments;
- leucorrhoea, fibroids (benign tumors) of female genital organs: as an adjunct to the main therapy after consultation with a gynecologist;
- hemorrhoids: for external use.
In the cosmetic industry, Erect marigolds are used as components of lotions and nourishing creams for the care of aging skin.
Contraindications
- eczema;
- period of pregnancy;
- hypersensitivity to plant components.
Home remedies from marigold erect
- broth for bathing: pour 2-3 handfuls of inflorescences with water, boil; to bathe children with jaundice, adults are shown when bile is spilled; if the symptoms of jaundice persist for more than 5 days, consult a doctor;
- cold infusion: pour 0.5 liters of cold water 4-5 red-brown flowers, insist overnight, boil in the morning for 10 minutes and cool at room temperature, then strain; for the treatment of female infertility and leucorrhoea, drink a warm infusion, before meals, 2 times a day;
- broth: pour 0.4 liters of hot water 3 flowers with stems, boil for 5 minutes, cool at room temperature, strain; a decoction of tonic and restorative action is taken for the treatment of gynecological diseases 3 times a day before meals; the course of therapy lasts 2-3 months with a week break every 30 days;
- aromatherapy: 2-3 drops of essential oil in an aroma lamp or up to 10 drops in a bath; with depression, neurosis, feelings of uncertainty and confusion, it gives a feeling of peace, improves mood, restores mental balance;
- oil inside: mix no more than 1-3 drops of oil with honey, strictly observing the dose; recommended for urolithiasis, night blindness and as a strong sleeping pill;
- aroma medallions: grease corns or warts with Marigolds erect oil and seal with a plaster for a day, repeat the procedure until complete recovery.
