Cetirizine is an anti-allergic drug. Blocker of histamine H1 receptors.
Composition and form of release
The drug is available in three dosage forms:
- White, oblong tablets, each containing 10 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride. Auxiliary components: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, titanium dioxide, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate. In packs of 7 or 10 tablets.
- Colorless, transparent oral drops containing 10 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride in 1 ml. Auxiliary components: sodium acetate trihydrate, benzoic acid, propylene glycol, glycerol 85%, distilled water. In dropper bottles of 10 or 20 ml.
- Colorless, transparent, banana-flavored syrup for oral administration, containing 1 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride in 1 ml. Additional components: glycerol 85%, sodium saccharin, banana flavor, sorbitol 70%, acetic acid 20%, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium acetate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propylene glycol. Pharmacological action of Cetirizine
According to the instructions, Cetirizine is a histamine H1 receptor blocker and has a pronounced antiallergic effect on the body.
The use of Cetirizine in the recommended dosages has practically no sedative effect, as well as antiserotonin and anticholinergic. Eases the course of allergies and prevents its development. According to reviews, Cetirizine has antiexudative and antipruritic effects.
Influences allergic reactions at an early stage, reduces the migration of inflammatory cells. In the late stage, allergy inhibits the release of mediators. Reduces capillary permeability, relieves tissue edema and smooth muscle spasms. Removes skin reactions to the introduction of histamine, specific allergens and cooling (for example, with cold urticaria).

Dosing and Administration of Cetirizine
1. Tablets
The drug or analogues of Cetirizine in tablet form are taken by children over twelve years of age and adults, one tablet per day, preferably before bedtime.
Children aged six to twelve years old, with a body weight of less than 30 kg, take half a tablet in the evening, with a body weight of more than 30 kg - one tablet at bedtime. It is allowed to divide the pill intake in half (half a tablet in the morning, half a tablet in the evening).
2. Syrup
Cetirizine syrup is prescribed for children aged two to twelve years, weighing less than 30 kg, at a dosage of 5 ml per day, with a weight of more than 30 kg - 10 ml per day.
Children over twelve years old and adults take 10 ml of Cetirizine syrup per day.
3. Drops
In the form of drops, Cetirizine is taken by children aged one to two years at a dosage of 2.5 mg (5 drops) per day. At the age of two to six years, the dosage is 5 mg (10 drops) per day. At the age of six to twelve years, children take a drug or analogue of Cetirizine, 10 mg (20 drops) per day.
Children over the age of twelve and adults usually take 20 drops (10 mg) per day. The drug is taken in the evening.
Reception of Cetirizine according to reviews for renal failure requires a halving of the dosage.
Care should be taken to select the dosage in case of impaired liver function, especially in combination with renal failure.
