- Ointment: soft white paraffin, white beeswax, propylene glycol monopalmitostearate, hexylene glycol.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Afloderm is a mild to moderately active topical glucocorticosteroid.
It has anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictor and antipruritic effects. The mechanism of development of anti-inflammatory action is not fully understood. Probably, alclomethasone induces the biosynthesis of phospholipase A2 inhibitors (lipocortins), due to which there is a decrease in the release of arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids. As a result, this becomes the reason for the inhibition of the formation of inflammatory mediators (leukotrienes and prostaglandins) from arachidonic acid.
Pharmacokinetics
The degree of absorption of alclomethasone through the skin is determined by a number of factors (including the type of dosage form and the integrity of the skin). Inflammatory and other skin conditions can increase absorption. Studies have shown that healthy volunteers absorb about 3% of the substance within 8 hours.
Indications for use
Afloderm is prescribed for inflammatory skin diseases and dermatoses that respond to topical GCS therapy, such as:
- Eczema;
- Contact and allergic dermatitis, including sunburn, photodermatitis, phytodermatitis;
- Atopic dermatitis;
- Psoriasis;
- Allergic reactions to insect bites.
Afloderm cream is used as a therapy for acute and subacute stages of inflammatory skin processes, incl. accompanied by exudation. The remedy is recommended for the treatment of inflammatory diseases on sensitive and delicate areas of the body (chest, neck, face, genital areas), as well as, if necessary, for additional hydration of the affected skin, which is carried out due to the components of the drug.
Afloderm ointment is prescribed for the prevention of subacute and chronic dermatoses, in particular, with scaly and dry lesions, infiltration, and also in cases where an occlusive effect of the ointment is necessary.
Contraindications
- Lupus;
- Hypersensitivity to alclomethasone or ancillary components of ointment and cream;
- Chicken pox;
- Cutaneous manifestations of syphilis;
- Open wounds, trophic ulcers;
- Post-vaccination skin reactions;
- Viral skin infections.
The drug can be administered to children from 6 months of age.
It is allowed to use Afloderm cream and ointment during pregnancy, however, the use of the drug should be short-lived and under the supervision of a doctor. There are no data on its teratogenic effect.
It is also allowed to use Afloderm during lactation. During treatment, it is necessary to observe precautions, in particular, do not apply the drug to the breast skin before feeding.
Afloderm, instructions for use: method and dosage
Afloderm ointment and cream should be evenly applied in a thin layer to the affected skin up to 3 times a day. In the treatment of chronic diseases for the prevention of relapse, treatment should be continued for some time after the disappearance of symptoms. During the aftercare period and in pediatrics, the frequency of Afloderm use can be reduced to 1 time per day.
If there is no effect within 2 weeks, the diagnosis must be clarified.
Side effects
Usually Afloderm is well tolerated, the side effects that occur rarely develop and are reversible. Most often, during treatment, there are: burning, itching, dry skin, erythema, papular rash, irritation, acneform rash, folliculitis, perioral dermatitis, hypopigmentation, secondary infection, dermatitis, striae, skin atrophy, prickly heat.
With the development of the above symptoms or hypersensitivity reactions, therapy should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted.
Overdose
Main symptoms: systemic side effects of glucocorticosteroids.
Therapy: symptomatic.
special instructions
Do not allow Afloderm to get into the eyes (in order to avoid the possible development of cataracts and glaucoma), as well as on open wound surfaces.
If the course of the disease is complicated by a secondary bacterial or fungal infection, antibacterial or antifungal therapy is additionally prescribed.
Afloderm can be used in the treatment of young children. It should be borne in mind that in young children, diapers and skin folds can have an effect similar to that of an occlusive dressing, which, accordingly, increases the systemic absorption of the active substance. In this regard, long-term use of the drug in young children is possible only under the supervision of a doctor.
If, at the first use, hypersensitivity reactions develop (burning, itching, hyperemia), the drug should be canceled.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Afloderm should be used with caution during pregnancy / lactation.
Pediatric use
Afloderm therapy is contraindicated in patients under 6 months of age.
Drug interactions
There are no data on the interaction of Afloderm with other drugs / substances.
