Release form and composition

The dosage form of the drug Almagel Neo is a suspension for oral administration: liquid from almost white to white, with suspended finest solid particles, with a pleasant orange aroma (170 or 200 ml in glass / polyethylene terephthalate bottles, in a cardboard box 1 bottle complete with measuring spoon 5 ml; 10 ml in sachets / sachets made of multilayer foil, in a cardboard box 10 or 20 sachets).

5 ml (1 scoop) contains:

• active substances: simethicone (simethicone emulsion) - 36 mg; magnesium hydroxide (magnesium hydroxide paste) - 395 mg; algeldrat (aluminum hydroxide gel) - 340 mg;
• auxiliary ingredients: hydrogen peroxide (H ₂ O ₂ solution 30%), sodium saccharinate, sorbitol, hydroxyethyl cellulose, citric acid monohydrate, macrogol 4000, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, propylene glycol, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, ethanol 96%, orange flavor, purified water.

Almagel Neo is a combined drug, antacid, adsorbent, enveloping and carminative effectiveness of which is determined by the active components that make up its composition.

Aluminum hydroxide (algeldrat) and magnesium hydroxide inhibit the acidity of gastric juice by neutralizing free hydrochloric acid in the stomach and bind bile acids, preventing their absorption. Algeldrat's ability to reduce intestinal motility compensates for the laxative effect of magnesium hydroxide. Simethicone hinders the formation of gas bubbles and promotes their destruction, and the gases that are released during this process are adsorbed by the intestinal walls and excreted from the body due to intestinal peristalsis.

Pharmacokinetics

• algeldrate and magnesium hydroxide: ions of aluminum and magnesium in the intestine are absorbed slightly; in patients with normal renal function, the content of aluminum and magnesium in the blood does not change due to the intake of Almagel Neo. Patients with chronic renal failure require monitoring of the concentration of aluminum and magnesium in the blood, since as a result of a violation of their excretion, levels may increase to toxic;
• simethicone: as a result of chemical and physiological inertness, it is not absorbed into tissues and organs; after passing through the gastrointestinal tract, it is excreted from the body unchanged.

Indications for use

• acute gastritis;
• exacerbation of chronic gastritis with normal / increased gastric secretory function;
• acute duodenitis, duodenogastric reflux;

Instructions for the use of Almagel Neo: method and dosage

Almagel Neo is taken orally, without diluting with water or drinking, 1 hour after meals and in the evening before going to bed. The suspension must be mixed before taking it by carefully kneading the sachet or shaking the bottle. After taking the drug, it is not recommended to take another liquid for 0.5 hours.

Recommended dosage:

• adult patients: 2 scoops or 1 sachet / sachet 4 times a day; if necessary, you can increase a single dose to 4 scoops or 2 sachets 4 times a day; maximum daily dose - 12 scoops (6 sachets) of the suspension;
• children and adolescents from 10 to 18 years: the dosage is determined by the attending physician and is usually 1/2 of the adult dose.

The duration of the therapeutic course should not exceed 28 days.

Side effects

Negative side effects observed when taking Almagel Neo:

• hypersensitivity reactions;
• nausea, vomiting;
• dysgeusia (change in taste);
• constipation / diarrhea.

Long-term use of high doses of the drug can cause osteoporosis, osteomalacia, hypophosphatemia, hypercalciuria, hypermagnesemia, hypocalcemia, hyperaluminaemia, nephrocalcinosis, encephalopathy, renal dysfunction.

Patients with concomitant renal failure while taking Almagel Neo may feel thirsty, lower blood pressure, hyporeflexia.

Overdose

An overdose symptom with prolonged use of high doses of the drug may be the development of hypermagnesemia, characterized by facial flushing, rapid fatigue, muscle weakness, exhaustion, and inadequate behavior.

Signs of metabolic alkalosis are also possible: mood swings, impaired mental performance, nervousness, fatigue, slow breathing, muscle numbness / pain, unpleasant taste in the mouth.

When such symptoms appear, urgent measures are required to quickly remove Almagel Neo from the body - stimulation of vomiting, gastric lavage and intake of activated charcoal.

With prolonged use of the drug, it is recommended to include in the diet food rich in phosphorus in order to satisfy the body's need for this trace element.

Patients suffering from alcoholism and epilepsy, patients with brain and liver diseases, pregnant women and children under 18 years of age should take into account that the ethyl alcohol content in Almagel Neo is 0.113 g per 5 ml of the drug (1 scoop) or 0.226 g per 10 ml of the drug (1 sachet / sachet), which can lead to complications. In the daily dose of the drug (8 scoops / 4 sachets), the ethyl alcohol content is 0.904 g, and in the maximum daily dose of the suspension (12 scoops / 6 sachets) - 1.356 g.

With congenital fructose intolerance, Almagel Neo can cause irritation of the gastric mucosa and diarrhea due to the presence of sorbitol in its composition in the amount of 0.475 g per 5 ml of the drug (1 scoop) or 0.950 g per 10 ml of the drug (1 sachet / sachet).
