Aesculus is a homeopathic medicine with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and venotonic action, used in the treatment of hemorrhoids and varicose veins.

Release form and composition

The product is released in the following forms:

  • homeopathic ointment for topical use: homogeneous, from yellow-brown to white (30 g in an aluminum tube, 1 tube with or without an applicator in a cardboard box; 25 g in a glass jar);
  • homeopathic cream for external use (75 g in a plastic jar sealed with a plastic lid, or in a tube, 1 jar or tube in a cardboard box).

100 g of ointment contains:

  • active substance: aesculus - horse chestnut [Aesculus hippocastanum (Aesculus)] in the form of homeopathic matrix tincture - 10 g;
  • additional component: petroleum jelly (medical petroleum jelly) - up to 100 g.

The cream contains: esculus, petroleum jelly, orange essential oil, hydrophilic base or anhydrous lanolin.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The Esculus preparation is made from natural ingredients of plant origin. The active ingredient of the homeopathic remedy is a horse chestnut extract, processed according to the rules of classical homeopathy to enhance the therapeutic effect. The drug has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antiseptic effects, improves the permeability and elasticity of blood vessels, and accelerates the healing process.

Indications for use

Ointment

Esculus ointment is recommended for use in proctology for the treatment of such disorders:

  • inflammation in the rectal area (including proctitis);
  • hemorrhoids stage 1–2;
  • anal itching;
  • cracks in the anus.

Additionally, depending on the manufacturer, the drug is indicated for the following diseases:

  • phlebeurysm;
  • phlebitis, thrombophlebitis;
  • violations of the elasticity and permeability of blood vessels (as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent).

Cream

The cream is recommended for use as an auxiliary and prophylactic agent for the following lesions:

  • phlebeurysm;
  • peripheral circulatory disorders: obliterating endarteritis ("smoker's legs"), intermittent claudication, arteriosclerosis;
  • elephantiasis.

Contraindications

The use of Esculus is contraindicated in the presence of hypersensitivity to any of its components.

When using the ointment in proctology, contraindications also include (depending on the manufacturer):

  • age up to 12 years;
  • prolapse of the rectal mucosa;
  • infringement and / or significant prolapse of hemorrhoids;

Instructions for the use of Esculus: method and dosage

Ointment

When used rectally, Esculus ointment is gently injected into the rectum after emptying 2 times a day (in the afternoon and in the evening before bedtime) using an applicator or a tampon. Outwardly, the drug is applied to the hemorrhoids or the inflamed area of the anus also 2 times a day, or a tampon treated with ointment is applied once at night. The course of therapy can be 7-14 days. Before the procedure, the anal area should be washed with warm water without using soap.

With varicose veins and thrombophlebitis, the drug is applied to the affected areas twice a day in a small amount, not rubbing until completely absorbed, but only lightly patting the skin. You can also apply dressings soaked in the drug overnight.

Cream

It is recommended to apply the cream 2-3 times a day, applying a thin layer to problem areas and gently rubbing in with careful circular movements.

Side effects

During therapy with Esculus, in some cases, allergic reactions may occur.
