Epigen intim is an antiviral medication for local and external use.
Pharmacological action of Epigen
The active component of Epigen has a complex effect: antipruritic, antiviral, immunostimulating, anti-inflammatory and regenerating.
The mechanism of action of the active component (activated glycyrrhizic acid), obtained from licorice root, is to interrupt the replication of viruses in the early stages, which prevents them from entering cells.
Release form
Epigen is released in the form of a light yellow 0.1% spray for external and local use, 1 ml of which contains 1 mg of the active ingredient (activated glycyrrhizic acid) and auxiliary substances: maleic, ascorbic, folic and fumaric acids, propylene glycol, tween and water peeled.
In plastic bottles with a spray of 60 ml. For intravaginal use, a spray nozzle is included.
Epigen's analogs
Epigen's analogs for the active ingredient are Glycyram, Glycyrrhizic acid and Epigen labial. These Epigen analogs have various dosage forms (tablets, granules for solution preparation) and are used as antiviral medications for oral administration.
Indications for the use of Epigen
According to the instructions, Epigen intim is prescribed for treatment:
- Human papillomavirus infections, including asymptomatic isolation of human papillomavirus of high oncogenic risk;
- Infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus (type 1 and 2) and Varicella zoster.
Epigen intima is also prescribed for prevention:
- Genital warts and cervical pathologies caused by Herpes simplex viruses (types 1 and 2), human papillomas and cytomegalovirus;
- Recurrence of infections caused by the viruses Varicella zoster, Herpes simplex (type 1 and 2), human papilloma and cytomegalovirus;
- Conditions associated with a decrease in local immunity against the background of vulvovaginal candidiasis, nonspecific colpitis and bacterial vaginosis.
In addition, Epigen, according to the instructions, is used as part of a combination and complex therapy in the treatment of cytomegalovirus infection, as well as for discomfort in the genital area, which is accompanied by burning, itching and dryness of the mucous membranes.
Contraindications
Contraindication to the use of Epigen intim is hypersensitivity to the components that make up the medication.
How to use Epigen spray
When applied externally, Epigen spray is sprayed from a distance of 4-5 cm onto the affected surface. The optimal therapeutic dose is one or two depressions of the spray valve. For intravaginal use of the spray, you must use the specially supplied nozzle. For men, in addition to external application, Epigen intima should be injected into the external opening of the urethra.
The drug treatment regimen depends on the disease.
In the treatment of skin infections caused by the human papillomavirus, the spray is used 3 times a day until genital warts are removed during the entire period of etiotropic therapy. Against the background of destruction, the frequency of use should be increased up to five times a day. The duration of treatment is at least ten days, however, therapy can be continued until complete healing. To avoid the development of relapses, Epigen spray, according to reviews, is effectively applied three times a day for a month.
The medication is also used to prevent the progression of an infection that is caused by the human papillomavirus. In this case, Epigen spray is recommended to be used before and after intercourse, as well as against the background of such provoking factors as:
- Overwork;
- Stress;
- Microflora disorders;
- Respiratory viral infections;
- Taking certain medications, namely cytostatics and antibiotics.
During the entire period of action of provoking factors, Epigen intim is used three times a day (externally and intravaginally).
When treating infections caused by Herpes simplex viruses (type 1 and 2) or Varicella zoster, Epigen spray should be applied to the lesion up to six times a day for five days. However, the duration of treatment can be increased with a persistent course of the disease until the symptoms disappear completely.
In the treatment of genital herpes and cytomegalovirus infection, Epigen, according to the instructions, is used externally and intravaginally up to five times a day for two weeks. After stopping the recurrence, Epigen, according to reviews, is effectively used for 10 days three times a day. For the prevention of recurrence of the development of the disease, the spray is recommended to be used from the 20th day of the menstrual cycle until the end of menstruation in the morning and evening.
In the treatment of nonspecific vulvovaginitis, bacterial vaginosis and vulvovaginal candidiasis, Epigen should be used intravaginally 3-4 times a day for 7-10 days.
