Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Choline alfoscerate is a central anticholinergic stimulant containing 40.5% of metabolically protected choline.

The drug activates the reticular formation, provides synthesis of phosphatidylcholine and acetylcholine in neuronal membranes, enhances metabolic processes, improves blood flow in the central nervous system and increases its linear velocity. It normalizes the spatio-temporal characteristics of spontaneous bioelectrical activity of the brain, restores consciousness, and eliminates focal neurological symptoms. It has a beneficial effect on the behavioral and cognitive reactions of patients with cerebrovascular diseases (for example, discirculatory encephalopathy or residual cerebral circulation disorders).

Cholytilin reduces cholinergic activity, prevents and corrects pathogenetic factors of involutional psychoorganic syndrome. By participating in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, it improves the plasticity of neuronal membranes and synoptic transmission. Stimulates the dose-dependent release of acetylcholine under physiological conditions.

Cholytilin has no mutagenic and teratogenic effects, does not affect the reproductive cycle.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is rapidly distributed in various tissues and organs, including the brain. Easily penetrates the blood-brain barrier.

It is excreted to a greater extent by the lungs (85%) in the form of carbon dioxide, to a lesser extent (15%) through the intestines and by the kidneys.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Cholytilin is used as part of the complex therapy of the following diseases / conditions:

  • psychoorganic syndrome against the background of degenerative diseases and involutional processes of the brain;
  • cerebrovascular insufficiency;
  • multi-infarction dementia;
  • craniocerebral trauma with a predominantly stem level of the lesion (acute period).

Contraindications

  • acute stage of hemorrhagic stroke;

  • pregnancy;
  • lactation period;
  • the presence of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
