Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Proctofitol is a combined antihemorrhoidal herbal remedy with laxative, antispasmodic and hemostatic efficacy.
The main active ingredients of the plants that make up the collection provide the following pharmacological action of Proctophytol:
- Senna (Cassia) holly leaves [Sennae (Cassia) acutifoliae folia]: contain anthracene derivatives (rhein, sennosides A and B, aloe-emodin); flavonoids (kaempferol, isorhamnetin, kaempferin); organic acids (stearic, linoleic, palmitic); polysaccharides and other biologically active nutrients. It has a laxative effect by increasing the motor function of the intestine, especially in its lower part, which is due to chemical irritation of anthracene derivatives on the receptors of the intestinal mucosa and a reflex increase in its peristalsis. The therapeutic effect develops 8-12 hours after taking senna;
- Alder buckthorn bark (Rhamni frangulae cortex): contains anthracene derivatives (reum-emodin, frangulin, etc.). It has a local irritating effect on the large intestine, which results in increased peristalsis. As a result of slowing down the absorption of fluid by the mucous membrane of the colon, the fecal masses are diluted with an increase in their volume. The laxative effect after taking buckthorn is observed after 8-12 hours;
- Yarrow herb (Achillea millefolium herba): contains essential oils (azulenes, borneol, camphor, pinene, thujone, cineole), flavonoids, organic acids, tannins. It has a hemostatic, bactericidal, wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, hypotensive effect, reduces heart rate, relieves spasms of the stomach, intestines, urinary tract, bile ducts, tones up the muscles of the uterus. The bitter taste of yarrow stimulates the secretion of saliva in the glands, increases the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and stimulates the formation of bile; yarrow herb reduces flatulence;
- licorice (licorice) roots [Glycyrrhizae (Liquiritiae) radices]: contain glycyrrhizin in the form of potassium and calcium salts of glycyrrhizic acid, flavonoids (isoliquiritin, liquiditin, lacriside), essential oil, ascorbic acid, gums, resins and other biologically active substances. It has anti-inflammatory, expectorant, diuretic, laxative, antacid, antihistamine, diaphoretic, analgesic, tonic, antimicrobial and smooth muscle relaxing effect;
- coriander fruit (Coriandri fructus): contains essential oils (the main components of which are pinene, linalool and cymene), as well as fatty oils. They enhance the secretion of the glands of the digestive tract, have a choleretic, laxative, analgesic, antiseptic effect, stimulate the regeneration of damaged tissues.
