Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Tilaxin is a low-molecular-weight synthetic interferon inducer that stimulates the formation of interferons α, β and γ in the body. In response to the introduction of tilorone, the main producers of interferon are granulocytes, neutrophils, T-lymphocytes, hepatocytes, and intestinal epithelial cells.

After oral administration, the maximum production of interferon is determined in the intestine-liver-blood sequence after 4-24 hours. The drug has an antiviral and immunomodulatory effect.

In leukocytes, it induces the synthesis of interferon. Stimulates bone marrow stem cells, depending on the dose, enhances antibody production, reduces the degree of immunosuppression, restores the ratio of T-helpers and T-suppressors.

Tilaxin is effective against various viral infections, including influenza viruses, hepatitis, herpes viruses, and other acute respiratory viral infections. The mechanism of its antiviral action is associated with inhibition of translation of virus-specific proteins in infected cells, whereby the reproduction of viruses is suppressed.

Pharmacokinetics

Characteristic of Tilorone (Tylaxin):

  • absorption: rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration;
  • distribution: bioavailability is 60%; about 80% of the substance binds to plasma proteins;
  • excretion: it is excreted practically unchanged, through the intestines - 70%, kidneys - 9%; T ½ (half-life) - 48 hours; does not undergo biotransformation and does not accumulate in the body.

Indications for use

  • influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections (prevention and treatment in adults, therapy in children);
  • viral hepatitis A, B and C (treatment in adults);
  • herpes and cytomegalovirus infection (treatment in adults);
  • pulmonary tuberculosis, infectious-allergic and viral encephalomyelitis (multiple sclerosis, leukoencephalitis, uveoencephalitis and others), urogenital and respiratory chlamydia (as part of complex treatment in adults).
