Eye drops Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm

Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm is an antimicrobial drug for local use in ophthalmology.

Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of eye drops: colorless or slightly colored, transparent liquid (0.5 or 1 ml each in a dropper tube, in a cardboard box 3 or 5 dropper tubes in a laminated bag or without it; 5 ml each in a bottle with a dropper and a lid with a first opening control or in a dropper bottle complete with a screw cap and a dropper stopper, in a cardboard box 1 bottle and instructions for use Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm).

1 ml drops contain:

  • active substance: sodium sulfacetamide monohydrate (in terms of sodium sulfacetamide) - 200 mg;
  • additional components: hydrochloric acid 1M, sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate, water for injection.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Sulfacetamide sodium refers to antibacterial agents for topical use in ophthalmology, sulfonamide derivatives. It has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial action and exhibits a bacteriostatic effect. The mechanism of action of the active substance is based on competitive antagonism with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and suppression of dihydropteroate synthetase, which causes disruption in the production of tetrahydrofolic acid (THPA), which is necessary for the production of pyrimidines and purines.

Sulfacil sodium-SOLOfarm demonstrates activity against gram-positive and gram-negative cocci, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, Actinomyces israelii, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Shigella spp., Clostridium perfringens, Bacillus anthracis, Chlamydia spp.

The formation of resistance of microorganisms to sulfacetamide is possible.

Pharmacokinetics

The active substance penetrates into the tissues of the eye and exhibits a specific antibacterial effect there. It works mainly locally, but part of the agent is absorbed through the inflamed conjunctiva and is found in the systemic circulation. The dose of sulfacetamide entering the systemic circulation is too small to provide a systemic therapeutic effect, but sufficient to sensitize with repeated use.

In the case of topical use, the maximum concentration (C max) of sulfonamides in the cornea, anterior chamber moisture and iris (approximately 3; 0.5 and 0.1 mg / ml, respectively) is observed within the first 30 minutes after application. A certain amount (less than 0.5 mg / ml) of the drug is determined in the tissues of the eyeball for 3-4 hours. If the corneal epithelium is damaged, the penetration of sulfonamides increases.

Biotransformation of sulfacetamide occurs in the liver by N-acetylation, its metabolites also exhibit antibacterial activity.

Excretion of the drug takes place in the kidneys by means of glomerular filtration.

Indications for use

Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm is recommended for use in the complex therapy of diseases of the eyelids, cornea, conjunctiva, lacrimal ducts and the anterior segment of the choroid excited by microorganisms sensitive to sulfacetamide.

The antimicrobial agent is also used to prevent infectious complications in the combination therapy of burns and eye injuries.

Contraindications

  • age up to 2 months;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Sulfacil sodium-SOLOfarm, instructions for use: method and dosage

Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm eye drops are used by instillation into the conjunctival sac.

Recommended dosage: every 2-3 hours (6-8 times a day) 1-2 drops should be injected, the course of therapy is 7-10 days. As the condition improves, the frequency of instillations per day can be reduced.

When treating eye diseases caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, it is recommended to inject the agent every 2 hours, 1 drop, topical application of the drug must be combined with systemic therapy.

Side effects

During treatment, the following undesirable effects may occur: lacrimation, pain, itching, burning in the eyes, nonspecific conjunctivitis, temporary blurred vision after instillations, the development of superinfection, allergic reactions, including severe reactions to sulfonamides (toxic epidermolysis, Stephen-Johnson syndrome, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, fulminant liver necrosis).

If any of the above-described adverse effects develop or any other adverse reactions occur, you should consult your doctor.

Overdose

There is no information on cases of overdose of sulfacetamide when applied topically in ophthalmology.

special instructions

In the presence of hypersensitivity to sulfonylurea, thiazide diuretics, furosemide or carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, the risk of hypersensitivity to sulfacetamide increases.

During the period of treatment, excessive growth of bacteria resistant to sulfonamide, as well as fungal flora, may be recorded.

The presence of a high concentration of PABA against the background of a large volume of purulent discharge can lead to a weakening of the antibacterial effect of sulfonamides.

Treatment with the drug should be discontinued in case of the development of symptoms of an allergic reaction, with an increase in the severity of signs of the inflammatory process, including intensification of pain and an increase in the amount of purulent discharge.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

It is recommended to refrain from driving vehicles and operating complex equipment in case of blurred vision after instillation of drops, until its clarity is restored.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

It is possible to use Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm during pregnancy only if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the possible threat to the fetus. During the period of drug treatment, it is necessary to refrain from breastfeeding, since there are no relevant clinical data.

Newborns whose mothers used oral sulfonamides during pregnancy had an increased risk of kernicterus. As a result, the likelihood of developing jaundice cannot be ruled out in the case of using sulfonamide in the form of eye drops.

Pediatric use

Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm eye drops are contraindicated for use in infants under 2 months of age.

Drug interactions

  • benzocaine, procaine, tetracaine: weaken the bacteriostatic effect of sulfacetamide;
  • paraaminosalicylic acid (PASK), diphenin, salicylates: increase the toxicity of sulfacetamide;
  • indirect anticoagulants: sulfacetamide increases the effect of these funds;
  • silver salts: the drug is incompatible with these agents.

Analogs

Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm analogs are Sulfacil sodium, Sulfacil sodium Bufus, Sulfacil sodium solution 20%, Sulfacil sodium-Vial, Sulfacil sodium-DIA, etc.

Terms and conditions of storage

Store out of reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 15 ° C.

Shelf life is 2 years.

After the first opening of the bottle, the drops can be used within 1 month.

Reviews about Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm

In most cases, reviews of Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm indicate the effectiveness of the drug when used in combination therapy for infectious eye diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to sulfacetamide. An affordable and inexpensive drug is successfully used in children and adults in the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, barley, meibomitis (internal barley), inflammation of the eyelids and cornea.

However, sometimes a very slow action, insufficient effect or achievement of a positive result of treatment is noted only after prescribing stronger antibiotics. Almost all patients complain of a burning sensation of varying intensity and the formation of white plaque on the eyelids, appearing after instillations of Sulfacil sodium-SOLOpharm.
