Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The action of Septolet total is due to the properties of its active substances:
- benzydamine - a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with a local anesthetic effect;
- cetylpyridinium chloride is an antiseptic from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds with antimicrobial, antifungal and disinfectant effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Of the two active substances of Septolet total, only benzydamine is absorbed through the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and pharynx, therefore, at the systemic level, they do not enter into pharmacokinetic interaction with each other.
The absorption of benzydamine through the mucous membranes was confirmed by the presence of the substance in the blood serum. However, its amount is not enough to provide a systemic effect.
When using benzydamine in the form of tablets dispersed in the oral cavity, the absorption of the drug is slightly higher than when it is used in the form of a spray.
The indicators of the volume of distribution, total clearance and half-life for both dosage forms of Septolet total are similar.
The drug is excreted mainly by the kidneys, mainly in the form of inactive metabolites.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Septolet total is used for the symptomatic treatment of pain in inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx of various etiologies.
Contraindications
- children under 18 years old - for a spray, up to 12 years old - for tablets;
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Septolet total should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with liver diseases, alcoholism, brain diseases, traumatic brain injury, bronchial asthma (including a history), hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.
