Sodium bromide has a calming effect due to its ability to stimulate inhibition processes in the cerebral cortex.
The remedy eliminates convulsions, restores the balance between the processes of inhibition and excitement, which is especially effective with increased excitability of the nervous system.
Sodium bromide is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and is excreted for a long time by the kidneys, mammary and sweat glands, and the intestines.
The maximum concentration of the agent in the blood after 12 days is halved.

Contraindications

Bromide solution for adults is prescribed to take 0.1-1 g three or four p / day. Children under one year old are prescribed 50-100mg, children under 2 years old - 150mg, children 3-4 years old. - 200mg, children 5-6 years. - 250mg, children 7-9 years. - 300mg, children 10-14y. - up to 500 mg.
In case of epilepsy, sodium bromide, according to the instructions, begin to take with a dosage of 1-2g / day, gradually increase the dose by 1-2g every week to the maximum allowable level of 6-8g. At the same time, during treatment, it is advisable to limit the use of table salt (up to 5-10 g / day when bromide is prescribed at a dosage of 4-5 g) - this can significantly increase the therapeutic effect.
For the treatment of children, a special dosage form is used: 1-3% bromide solution with fruit syrup. Children under one year old are given 5 ml of solution, children 2 liters. - 10ml, 3-6l. - 15ml, children 7-9y. - 22.5ml, 10-14l. - 30ml. three rubles / day.
Side effects
Sodium bromide solution can cause memory impairment, lethargy, skin rash, cough, rhinitis, conjunctivitis.
If these side effects appear, to eliminate them, the patient is injected with a sodium chloride solution in the amount of 10-20 g / day, an abundant drink is prescribed - 3-8 liters / day. At the same time, they monitor the regular emptying of the intestines, often rinse the mouth and wash the skin, limit the use of salt.
