Spray nasal Isofra
Spray nasal Isofra

Isofra is an antibiotic used mainly in otolaryngology for the treatment of rhinitis and its derivatives.

Release form

Available in vials as a nasal spray. The composition of the drug includes the antibiotic framycetin, the content of which is 800,000 units. The total volume of one bottle is 15 ml. Manufacturer - "Laboratories Bouchard-Recordati" (France).

Consumers may be interested in whether Isofra has analogues. To date, there are no such drugs on the domestic pharmaceutical market: there are no drugs with exactly the same active ingredient as a pharmacologically active component. With a certain degree of convention, an analogue of Isofra can be called Bioparox (contains the antibiotic fusafungin) and Polydex, and the latter includes a whole medicinal "cocktail": in addition to two antibiotics (neomycin and polymyxin B), the corticosteroid dexamethasone is also included in the drug.

pharmachologic effect

Isofra has a bactericidal effect, that is, destructive in relation to pathogenic microorganisms. Many bacteria suffer from this drug, both gram-positive and gram-negative. Isofra is used for lesions of the upper respiratory tract with staphylococcus, colibacillus and hemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella.

Indications for use

The use of Isofra suggests a narrow therapeutic specialization of this drug. It is used as a combined (together with other drugs) treatment of inflammatory upper respiratory tract infections, including:

  • rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucosa);
  • rhinopharyngitis (when the pharynx joins the inflammation of the nasal mucosa);
  • sinusitis (inflammation of the paranasal sinuses). Sinusitis is a complication of the common cold. The instructions for Isofra contain a clarification, according to which the drug can be used for sinusitis only in the absence of deformation of the nasal septum;
  • complications of sinusitis: frontal sinusitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the frontal sinus), ethmoiditis (inflammation of the ethmoid labyrinth mucosa) and sinusitis (inflammation of the maxillary sinus mucosa).

Another area of application of Isofra is the prevention and treatment of inflammatory processes that can develop as a result of ongoing surgical interventions.

In medical reviews about Isofra, its sparing properties and high efficiency are noted.

Izofra: Instructions for use

According to the instructions, Isofra is taken for 7 days, one injection into each nostril:

  • adults - 4-6 times a day;
  • children - 3 times a day.

The condition for the drug substance to reach the destination is the vertical position of the bottle.

Contraindications

In accordance with the results of clinical studies and reviews about Isofra, this drug has the following contraindications:

  • hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside antibiotics in general and to framycetin in particular;
  • pregnancy and lactation. Despite the practical absence of reliable reviews about Isofra in relation to its teratogenicity (the ability to disrupt the embryonic development of the fetus), it should be noted that antibiotics-aminoglycosides, unfortunately, still have a similar effect. Therefore, if there are other options, you should not use this drug during pregnancy. Regarding lactation, we can say that Isofra has the ability to penetrate into breast milk and have an adverse effect on the child, causing him to become weak and drowsy.

Side effect

The relative rarity of side effects is explained by the local method of using Isofra, in which its adsorption capacity, and, therefore, the effect does not apply to the entire body as a whole. In the responses to Izofra, which accumulated during the post-marketing research period, only allergic reactions were noted as a side effect of the drug. Overdose with adequate use of the drug is practically excluded.

special instructions

Frequent use of Isofra or analogues of this drug (as well as any other antibiotic) is fraught with the emergence of strains of microorganisms that will not respond to this drug. This is another argument (besides prescription) for the use of antibacterial drugs under close medical supervision.

Isofra: storage instructions

The drug should be stored at room temperature not exceeding 25 ° C. The shelf life determined by the manufacturer is 3 years.
