Zentel is an antihelminthic and antiprotozoal (suppresses the vital activity of protozoa) drug.

pharmachologic effect

Zentel is active against intestinal and tissue forms of parasites, eggs, larvae and adult helminths. The active ingredient of the drug is albendazole.

The use of Zentel contributes to the disruption of glucose transport processes, functional disorders in the body of the helminth, its subsequent death and removal from the human body.

After oral administration, Zentel is poorly absorbed, significantly enhances this process by taking fatty foods. The maximum concentration of Zentel in the blood is observed 2-5 hours after application. Zentel is excreted mainly through the intestines with bile and in small quantities with urine.

Indications for use Zentel

The instruction recommends prescribing the drug Zentel for:

enterobiasis (a parasitic disease caused by pinworms);
teniasis (a disease that affects the small intestine, causes pork tapeworm);
hymenolepiasis (dysfunction of the nervous system and indigestion caused by damage to the body by tapeworms);
ankylostomiasis (the causative agents are hookworm or nekator);
ascariasis (a disease caused by ascaris affects the lungs and intestines);
clonorchosis (chronic helminthiasis affecting the pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts);
trichocephalosis (intoxication and intestinal damage provoked by the whipworm helminth);
olisthorchiasis (a disease caused by parasitic flatworms that affects the pancreas and liver);
giardiasis in children (pathogens are microorganisms of the family of protozoa - lamblia);
Larva Migrans skin syndrome (tortuous skin inflammation caused by larvae of nematodes);
cystic echinococcosis (development in the liver, lungs and other organs of cystic and single formations that provoke tapeworm larvae);
hepaticolesis (a parasitic disease, expressed in the development of hepatitis and its accompanying complications);
neurocysticercosis (damage to the central nervous system caused by cestodes);
gnatostomosis (helminthiasis, which is characterized by edema, dermatitis, the formation of nodes under the skin, damage to the eyes, lungs, central nervous system);
toxocariasis (nematode-provoked disease characterized by bronchitis, fever, pneumonia, eosinophilia);
trichinosis (a parasitic disease manifested in the form of fever, muscle pain, facial edema, skin rashes, an increase in the number of eosinophils in the blood).

Zentel instructions for use and dosage

Zentel comes in the form of tablets and oral suspensions. Zentel should be taken at the same time with meals. Reviews about Zentel and the instruction recommend repeating the course of treatment if, after three weeks of taking the drug, there is no clinical improvement.

The recommended single dose for adults and children over three years old is usually 400 mg of albendazole, which corresponds to 1 tablet of Zentel. With ankylostomiasis, enterobiasis, ascardiasis, necatorosis and trichocephalosis 400 mg Zentel is taken once.

According to the instructions for Zentel, with strongyloidosis, hymenolepiasis, darknosis, 400 mg of the drug should be taken per day for three days.

In case of hymenolepiasis in the interval from 10 to 21 days after the end of the course, it is recommended to repeat the treatment. The use of Zentel twice a day at 400 mg for 3 days is advisable for opistarhosis and clonorchiasis. The same dose of the drug is taken once a day for 1-3 days with Larva Migrans skin syndrome.

With giardiasis in children 3-12 years old, keeping the dose and frequency of receptions, the duration of Zentel application is increased to 5 days. Children 2-3 years old are prescribed the same doses of the drug as adults with similar diseases, only in the form of a suspension, 10 ml of which corresponds to 400 mg of albendazole.

Once a day, 1 tablet Zentel for 10 days is taken for hepaticolesis and for 10-20 days - for gnatostomosis. Treatment of toxacarosis and trichinosis involves the use of Zentel twice a day, two tablets for 5-10 days. The effectiveness of this dosing regimen is confirmed by reviews of Zentel and therapeutic practice.

Long-term use of Zentel in high doses involves taking the drug in several courses, usually with two-week breaks.

With cystic echinococcosis, inoperable or multiple cysts, Zentel is used for a four-week course, which can be repeated up to three times. With alveolar echinococcosis, Zentel treatment can last for several months or years, subject to the alternation of four-week courses and two-week breaks. For 7 - 30 days, the instruction recommends taking Zentel for neurocysticercosis.

Patients weighing more than 60 kg are usually prescribed 400 mg of the drug twice a day. For patients with less weight, the daily dose of Zentel, calculated for two doses, is calculated by multiplying 15 mg of the drug by the number of kilograms, while the maximum allowable daily dose should not exceed 800 mg. For children under 6 years of age, the instruction does not recommend taking high doses of Zentel.

Side effects

The undesirable effects of Zentel's drug reviews and clinical studies include headache, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, urticaria, rash, itching.

Contraindications to the use of Zentel

Zentel is not prescribed for those planning a pregnancy, carrying a child and breastfeeding women. The use of Zentel is contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity to albendazole, as well as in children under 1 year of age.
