Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Glycerin suppositories have a laxative effect. Glycerol lubricates and softens hardened feces, irritates the intestinal mucosa, reflexively stimulating its motility, facilitates the passage of fecal masses through the colon, and starts the process of defecation.

Glycerol is well absorbed through the rectal mucosa. Active metabolism takes place in the liver. From 7 to 14% of the active substance is excreted unchanged. Excretion is carried out by the kidneys.
Indications for use
Glycerin suppositories are used for the symptomatic treatment of constipation of various origins (in cases where oral administration is not possible).
In addition, suppositories are prescribed for the prevention of constipation in patients who are not recommended to strain during the act of defecation, for example, with perianal abscess or fissures in the anus, painful thrombosed hemorrhoids, anorectal stenosis, as well as in patients after myocardial infarction.
