Release form and composition
The dosage form of Erazaban is a cream for external use 10%: almost white or white, of a uniform consistency (in a cardboard box 1 tube of 2, 5, 10 or 15 g).
Composition of 1000 mg cream:

- auxiliary components: benzyl alcohol - 27 mg, sucrose - 50 mg, propylene glycol - 50 mg, mineral oil - 80 mg, water - 693 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Docosanol is an antiviral agent. The exact mechanism of its action is unknown.
According to research, docosanol:
- affects the fusion of the virus with the plasma membrane, which leads to inhibition of the penetration of the virus into the cell and its replication;
- promotes the development of cell resistance to infection with lipid-coated viruses, such as Herpes simplex 1 virus.
Docosanol is ineffective against uncoated viruses.
Pharmacokinetics
Intracellular metabolism of docosanol to the main metabolite, docosanoic acid, occurs.
Docosanol and its metabolite are endogenous components of human cell membranes, especially in erythrocytes, kidneys, lungs, and brain.
On intact skin, the cream has minimal absorption, it is not detected in the blood; absorption on the affected skin is moderate. Excretion is carried out by the kidneys.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Erazaban is prescribed for the treatment of infections of the mucous membranes and skin caused by the Herpes simplex virus type 1, including herpes of the lips.
Contraindications
- intolerance to fructose and sucrase / isomaltase deficiency or glucose / galactose malabsorption syndrome;
- age up to 12 years;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Erazaban during pregnancy and during breastfeeding should be used with caution, under medical supervision.
Instructions for the use of Erazaban: method and dosage

The recommended frequency of application of the cream is 5 times a day (in the daytime, approximately once every 3 hours). Therapy should be started as early as possible after the onset of the infection, in case of recurrent infection - during the prodromal phase or at the very beginning of the manifestation of the infectious process.
Duration of use is at least 5 days. If necessary, the course can be extended up to 10 days. If symptoms persist, a doctor should be consulted.
