Glivenol is a venotonic agent.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - capsules: soft gelatinous, oblong, transparent, orange color, the inscription "FU" is applied on one side with white paint, on the other - "Ciba"; content - colorless to yellowish oily liquid (10 pcs. in blisters, 2, 4 or 10 blisters in a cardboard box).
Active ingredient: tribenoside, in 1 capsule - 400 mg.
Additional components: ethylparaben sodium, canthaxanthin 10%, gelatin, propylparaben sodium, glycerin 85%, absolute ethanol.
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
According to the instructions, Glivenol reduces the permeability of the capillaries located in the area of the paravenous tissue and has an anti-inflammatory and venotonic effect on the body. The drug improves blood microcirculation, increases the tone of venous vessels, reduces venous stasis and the severity of pathological changes in vascular permeability. This effect is due to the antagonism of the active substance with bradykinin and other biogenic amines (histamine, serotonin).
The drug has a high absorption activity. Its maximum concentration in the blood is observed 2 hours after ingestion. Tribenoside is distributed throughout all body tissues, but its maximum concentration is observed in the walls of blood vessels. The drug does not accumulate in organs and tissues.
Half-life of the drug: initial - about 2.5 hours, final - 20 hours.
Indications for use
- Varicose veins, accompanied by edematous and painful syndromes;
- Disorders of venous circulation, manifested by a feeling of heaviness, fatigue and tension in the legs, as well as swelling and pain in the legs after prolonged standing / sitting;
- Hemorrhoids;
- Phlebitis, periphlebitis, post-thrombotic syndrome, the period before and after sclerotherapy (as an adjuvant).
Contraindications
The main contraindication to the use of the drug is individual hypersensitivity to its components.
Tribenoside should be used with caution during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. It is not known whether the substance penetrates into breast milk, therefore, it is not recommended to prescribe Glivenol during lactation.
Instructions for the use of Glivenol: method and dosage
The drug should be taken orally, with food or immediately after a meal.
The standard single dose is 1 capsule, the frequency of administration is 2 times a day.
It is necessary to take the drug for several weeks (as prescribed by a doctor), even in the case of a rapid regression of the symptoms of the disease.
The course of treatment is recommended to be repeated periodically, in particular for patients whose work is associated with prolonged stress on the legs, especially in the warm season.
Side effects
- Digestive system: gastrointestinal disorders (usually not serious and go away on their own after drug withdrawal);
- Allergic reactions: rash, anaphylaxis, incl. urticaria, impaired circulation and respiration, angioedema.
Overdose
There are few data on drug overdose. If it occurs, gastric lavage and the intake of enterosorbents are recommended.

The recommended dose should not be exceeded. an increase in the therapeutic effect is not observed.
Tribenoside is a sugar derivative, however, it does not affect carbohydrate metabolism, even in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
It is forbidden to use the remedy in the first trimester of pregnancy.
In the II and III trimesters of pregnancy and during breastfeeding, the drug is used only under strict indications.

There is no information on the interaction of tribenoside with other drugs.
